Sony Optimistic PS5 Sales Break PS4 Record

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Sony is optimistic about the PlayStation 5’s short-term sales prospects and hopes to break PS4 records in the long term. Sony’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki, said the company believes the launch of the PS5 on November 12 will go very well. This leads to platform readiness, the strength of the PlayStation brand, a flagship gaming ecosystem and a cohesive gamer community.

Quoted from NME, Totoki said the company targets sales of more than 7.6 million PS5 units by the end of the fiscal year, March 31, 2021. With this estimate, Totoki is optimistic that PS5 sales in the long term will exceed the 100 million units achieved by PS4. Sony claims that until September 30, 2021, PS4 console sales reached 113.5 million units.

“Yes, this is a challenge. But we are very excited and committed to succeeding and exceeding PS4 aggregate unit sales.”

In an interview published on Tuesday (10/27/2021), quoted from Reuters, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan revealed that the demand for PS5 pre-orders was very large. Sony claims to have the same number of PS5 pre-orders in the United States in the first 12 hours as the first 12 weeks for the PS4.

“Maybe not everyone who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day can find it. We are working as hard as we can to ensure supplies are safe during the year-end shopping season.”

Sony is ready to compete with Microsoft, which will also release Xbox Series X/S on November 10 by building a network of internal studios that produce a number of exclusive titles, such as Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions. Sony also has Insominiac Games released a game that is expected to be a PS5 sales booster, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
