Preview: New Acer Swift 3 (2021) with AMD Ryzen

Maybe people will wonder when Acer decides to release the new Acer Swift 3 variant to the market, equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor. What are his abilities?

Specification

Acer released two variants for the Swift 3 with AMD Ryzen processors, and each of them are:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2500U Mobile Processor with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics
  • Screen span: 15.6” FHD IPS/
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Internal storage: 1TB
  • Addendum: Fingerprint and Linux OS

The second variant comes with the following specs:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700U Mobile Processor with Radeon Vega 10 Graphics
  • Screen span: 15.6” FHD IPS
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Internal storage: 1TB+128GB SSD
  • Additional: Fingerprint, Keyboard Backlight, Linux

Design and Screen

The horizontal brush pattern above the aluminum lid and the deck makes the Swift 3 look extraordinary when presented in any color variant. Unfortunately, some people may find it difficult to open the laptop because Acer does not place a small hollow in the front. But this doesn’t seem to be too big of a problem.

Weighing around 1.9 kilograms, and device thickness of 1.7 centimeters, the Swift 3 is lighter and thinner than the Dell Inspiron 15 5000, for example. Even so, the weight and thickness are the same as their peers who use Intel processors.

On the left side of the device are several ports, including HDMI, dual USB 3.0 and USB Type-C. Power adapter and headphone jacks are also available in that section. On the right is quieter than the left. There is an SD memory reader slot, a USB 2.0 port, and a security lock slot. Then there is also a fingerprint reader sensor in the touchpad, which supports using Windows Hello. The sensor is in the right corner, just below the keyboard.

The screen landscape of the Acer Swift 3 is not too bright, even though the panel itself has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. It is just glare and light reflections make visual objects in them difficult to see. The brightness level of 190nits is not sufficient for a mid-range device.

Overall Performance

The second generation AMD Ryzen is presented through another version of Swift 3, making it appear as a serious challenger to its brother who comes with Intel-based processors. In terms of performance, the combination of the AMD Ryzen 7 2700U and 8GB of RAM makes it look decent as a mid-range laptop, although in fact it is more worthy of being positioned in the ranks of everyday laptops where users do not need too large hardware resources. Multitasking can be handled in a fairly okay way, in the sense that there is no lag that interferes with the overall performance of the device.

But that doesn’t mean the device is completely bad. It’s just that it is intended for users who are not fussy demanding perfect performance. As a device with a price below 10 million, the New Acer Swift 3 with an AMD Ryzen processor may be a pretty good pedestal.
