Gigabyte P35X V6 Review – Now With GTX 1070, 2x the Performance of GTX 980M!

Why up to the sixth version, Gigabyte, especially the P35 series, did not experience significant barebones changes? But today we’re not going to talk about design, maybe next time, when Gigabyte has changed the design of their gaming laptop product, everyone!

Gigabyte P35X V6 – Geforce GTX 1070 in 22 mm Barebone

Let’s talk about the specifications of the Gigabyte P35X V6 first. In this SKU, Gigabyte is very, very brave to bury a Geforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 into 21mm thick barebones. So far, its closest competitor, the recently released MSI GS73VR, is still holding on to the GTX 1060. Meanwhile, the Asus ROG GL502VS, replaced the barebones to a thicker size than before when migrating to the GTX 1070. Hmm.. How is Pascal doing? more than 1 hour in the heat, we will both act thoroughly in one paragraph of this Gigabyte P35X v6 review article.

Geforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 256-bit

This component is the main artist in the Gigabyte P35X V6 enclosure. Offer quantity cuda core almost 2x its predecessor the GTX 970M. The Geforce GTX 1070 laptop version even has more cuda cores than the desktop version which only carries 1920 cuda cores. Forget the GTX 970M, the Pascal chip on the P35X V5 is also far superior to the GTX 980M which both have a 256-bit Memory Interface. Compared to the GTX 980M (1038 MHz), the 1070 has an almost 40% higher GPU clock (1443 MHz). Just right, abundant cuda cores plus a high-class GPU clock = Killer. Agree?

Not to mention the new features in the Pascal generation (perhaps some cannot be felt on the current notebook platform) such as VR ready and Ansel. For hardcore gamers, there is also support G-SYNC, 120Hz monitor, and also 4K Gaming. The last mentioned feature, namely 4K Gaming, is trying to be offered by the Gigabyte P35X V6 which we are reviewing this time. CPU & RAM

For the processor, it’s still the same as the previous version 5. A chip Intel core i7 6700HQ The 4 core is the main brain of the black made of aluminum metal. On the main memory or RAM side, the Gigabyte P35X V6 is equipped with 2 DDR4 SoDimm slots which is embedded two pieces of Rip Jaws 8GB pc 2400 MHz. The total capacity is 16GB, you can still increase it to 32GB if you still feel it’s lacking.

Storage

In terms of storage, the Gigabyte P series is known to be quite generous. If MSI uses stacked adapters, Gigabyte prefers to deploy them directly on top of the motherboard. In total there are 2 M.2 slots that you can plug in up to 2 SSDs, 1 2.5-inch SATA and an ODD that supports Swapable Bay. You can also change this ODD function into a second 2.5-inch SATA HDD slot. Keep in mind, one of the 2 M.2 slots for some SKUs is already filled with dedicated streaming engine. So, it is possible that only 1 M.2 slot is left. It’s still more than enough to maximize the storage side of this laptop because it supports PCIe up to 2000 mbps.

4K Display Panel

Jump into the monitor panel points. The Gigabyte P35X V6 that we reviewed offers an anti-glare-coated IPS panel display with a resolution of 4K 282 ppi. The panels used are still similar to the P35X v5, namely, Sharp SHP144E. With a high resolution and denser pixels per inch, automatically, the Gigabyte P35X V6 is able to offer color gamut options to a wider spectrum. Unique sales points on features true RGB, certainly very helpful for professionals who often complain about the color difference in the print with the design that appears on the monitor screen.

What is somewhat less than optimal from this panel is its response time performance when compared to its competitors with 1080p panels. This may be acceptable because 4K panels are still in the penetration stage at this time. For some game titles with high graphic quality and fast frame changes, you may find screen tearing. Performance

Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 shows its fangs on this side. We take a sample on the same barebones, namely the Gigabyte P35X V5 which uses the Geforce GTX 980M, the improvement is extraordinary. In the 3D Mark Vantage scenario, the GPU Score GTX 1070 is 31% more superior. In the 3D Mark 11 scenario, it excels even further up to 68%. While on 3DMark Firestrike, the GTX 1070 is 105% superior.

In the RE6 in-game benchmark session, the GTX 1070 edged almost 45% higher. While in the test rendering of 3D objects via Unigine Heaven 4.0, the difference reached 53%. Finally, for the overall system performance, the Gigabyte P35X V6 that we reviewed only scored 5102. This is a bit odd because the GTX980M version with the same SSD performance scored 5550 points. Continuous testing makes the heat on the components affect the final results of PCMark 7. FYI, for PCMark 7 we are the last test of a series of tests on the same day. This is why synthetic tests need to be repeated to get the average score. Incidentally, the unit that came could not linger in the pemmzchannel lab.

Temperature

This point is also interesting to discuss considering that the frontal changes only occur in the specifications without major changes to the barebones design. In version 5, the P35X only uses 2 elongated heatpipes which share between the CPU and GPU. Space limitations? Yes of course. Even with the current best quality heatpipes and heatsinks, this seems to be worrying if it is still applied to the P35X V6. Fortunately, the fan rotation on the P35X can be made to always spin at maximum speed. Although it sounds noisy, this is the only solution to suppress the heat in the cooling area.

For GPUs, pemmzchannel believes, Pascal is getting more efficient at work. In effect, the heat that lands on the GPU is theoretically lower than the GTX 980M version though. But in the CPU, Intel core i7 6700HQ skylake is still too superior to “hot”. Especially when you meet an application that asks it to always run in turbo boost mode or maximum clock speed. Via HW Monitor, the average CPU temperature was immediately perched at 93°C shortly after the clock ran at maximum speed for 5 minutes.

Battery Performance

In addition to storage, the advantage of Gigabyte laptop products is a large battery capacity. Although not as big as the Gigabyte Aero 14 which reaches 94.24 Wh, the battery capacity of the P35X V6 which reaches 75.81 Wh is massive considering its thickness dimensions. Of course, it doesn’t pass for more than 100 minutes because the LCD panel is 4K which automatically consumes more power.

Conclusion

The point is, this product has a very good performance, bro. Thanks to Nvidia with its Geforce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 chip. A high-level graphics computing solution has been successfully presented in 21mm barebones on the Gigabyte P35X V6. To overcome the heat dissipation that arises, in addition to making the fan rotate optimally, you should use an external cooling pad if you plan to use it full load in more than 3 hours.
