Akara Esports Team Cancels Competition in Korea
The Akara Esports team, which was scheduled to represent Indonesia at the 9th Esport 2021 World Championship tournament in Busan, South Korea, was known to have canceled due to visa problems. The Esports team, which was supposed to compete in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game, was reportedly having problems with obtaining an entry visa to South Korea.
Akara’s cancellation of competing in Busan is very unfortunate for Akara’s owner, Avner Raweyae. According to him, the Akara Team failed to fly because the visa processing was not done seriously by Eddy Lim as the head of the IeSPA (Indonesia eSport Association) organization.
“We are very disappointed, because we cannot do much for the country and also for esports fans in the country. Even though Akara is one of the esport teams that has started to shine on the national and international scene,” said Avner as quoted from the SiagaOnline page, Friday (11/10/2021).
Regarding this incident, Avner Raweyae will send a letter to the Minister of Youth and Sports as well as report Eddy Lim to the authorities in the near future because of the statement he made to the media.
“We also do not accept Eddy Lim’s statement in the media, therefore Akara will report it to the authorities in the near future,” he said.
“We consider that IeSPA has allowed the Akara Team to depart. IeSPA should have taken care of administrative and transportation matters, because the Akara team only returned to Indonesia on October 31, after competing to represent Indonesia in Manila,” he said.
“Meanwhile, November 1, Akara immediately took care of his own visa, without being assisted by IeSPA. because they have to leave on November 8 because the match in Korea starts on November 9 – 11, 2021,” he concluded.
Statement from IeSPA
Previously, Eddy Lim as chairman of IeSPA had revealed the reason behind the cancellation of the Akara team to South Korea.
“The bottom line is that the visa problem is late so you can’t go. Tickets that have been purchased and are not used,” said Eddy Lim, as quoted from the Metrotvnews.com page, Friday (11/10/2021).
“Tickets and accommodation have been prepared. It has even been included in the group drawing on the 8th.” he continued
The news of the cancellation of the departure of an esports team from Indonesia not only disappointed Avner Raweyae as the owner, but also Indonesian esports fans. The reason is, Akara is one of the Indonesian esport teams whose names are starting to rise in the national and international esports world.
The esports team from Jakarta is also a representative from Indonesia at the ASUS ROG Master Asia-Pacific Main Qualifier in Manila, Philippines which took place on October 26-29 2021.
