Day Two of The International 8 DotA 2 Main Event
The second day of playing The International 8 DotA 2 event has ended. Two dark horses from Europe and North America performed brilliantly in the upper bracket to make Group B winners and subscriptions to The International in recent years dropped to the lower bracket. Meanwhile, the troops who had been in the lower bracket from the start had to be willing to be eliminated from The International 8 DotA 2 by the upper bracket troops who dropped caste.
Round 2 Upper Bracket
Two MOBA DotA 2 game teams, OG and EG, which many viewers of The International 8 DotA 2 didn’t expect to go further in the tournament, showcased an unprecedented game. Both teams have brilliance and composure. Although, both of them seemed to need some time before they could play at their best, but in the end they managed to get to the top of Group A through hard work and also high motivation to enter the playoffs in the upper bracket.
The second day of playing The International 8 DotA 2 event, both of them went further to establish their claws in the top 6 positions of The International 8 DotA 2. This result is a monumental improvement compared to The International 2021.
OG is set to play against VGJ.Storm, who is the top seed in Group B. However, VGJ.Storm stepped on the second day of playing The International 8 event not very well, because they were penalized by Valve after breaking the rules when playing in the group stage. VGJ.Storm are not allowed to use their trainers during the hero draft phase and the draft time is cut to 70 seconds during draft time.
VGJ.Storm played aggressively from the start of the first half. They won the laning and also held a high networth advantage throughout the game. In an unpredictable series of events, OG managed to make a net worth difference of 17k gold, despite losing three barracks. They killed VGJ.Storm mainstay Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok who played Weaver twice, leaving him without a buyback. Then, OG immediately destroyed the rest of his team’s heroes.
With a surge of confidence high from the first half, OG got off to a much better start to the second half. They maintained the momentum with a shock draft via Anathan “ana” Pham who was given the Troll Warlod. He was the MVP in this second round. With Troll Warlord, Ursa and Storm Spirit’s movements can be blocked, especially when they want to secure Roshan and Aegis.
Finally, VGJ.Storm got a bitter end, this North American team lost all barracks and sacrificed all their heroes without being able to buy back. GG was also typed, so they had to be willing to go to the lower bracket to face the Winstrike Team.
Just like OG, Evil Genius are at the top of Group A. Their draft of their first half match looks solid, with the choice of hero carry Ursa used by Artour “Arteezy” Babaev. This hero is used to counter heroes against Morphling used by Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng. With an advantage of almost 39k networth, Evil Geniuses won over Team Secret in about 41 minutes.
Team Secret kept their composure and managed to counterattack in the second half. Laning is balanced. It is difficult to predict whether the match will end with a score of 2: 0 as there is barely any difference in the networth of the two teams. The game finally ended in about 58 minutes, when EG finally caught Yeik “MidOne” Tinker Nai Zheng and made Team Secret bow. This defeat from EG made Team Secret go down to the lower bracket to face Vici Gaming.
Round 2 Bottom Bracket
Serenity and Mineski started the main event The International 8 from the lower bracket. They survived the best-of-one elimination series on the first day of the main event. Unfortunately, both teams met a strong opponent who had fallen from the upper bracket to fight in the lower bracket. Serenity and Mineski, finally, ended their run at The International 8 at 9-12 with a prize pool of $374,873 per team.
Team Serenity has a draft and game similar to Wings Gaming and CDEC. Because they are similar, this team is expected to have the same story. However, unlike their predecessors, Serenity did not appear in the grand final of this eSports championship. In fact, they ended their dreams early.
OpTic Gaming is the team that ended the Cinderella Serenity tale. Barely spurred at the start of the group phase, this ppd-led team made a magical comeback by securing a position in the top bracket. However, their fate was unlucky because they met the incumbent Team Liquid, which forced the North American team to be willing to go to the bottom bracket. Competing in the lower bracket makes OpTic Gaming want to keep their hopes of becoming a champion alive. They continued to push lane, eventually dominating Team Serenity in the first and second half through excellent play by Quinn “CC&C” Callahan via Storm Spirit and solid collaboration via Alchemist.
Mineski came to The International 8 with his head held high for ending the 2021-2021 season in 5th place. They secured direct invite tickets. However, their performance in the group stage was not good, so they had to start the main event from the bottom bracket.
On the first day of the main event, Mineski performed exceptionally against TNC. They were able to do well at the last moment vs TNC to win and continue to progress in the main event, but the excitement was over when they had to meet Virtus.Pro who dropped from the top bracket to the bottom. Virtus Pro who dropped from the top bracket to the bottom refused to be eliminated and trampled Mineski perfectly, especially in the second half which saw Clinkz’s perfect game from No. [o] ne.
