The 2021 eSports Presidential Cup Kick Off Officially Rolls
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The series of the highest caste esports tournaments in Indonesia, the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup, is officially rolling. This is the second year of holding the Esports President’s Cup after the inaugural event achieved success earlier this year. The stages began with the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup Kick Off ceremony which was held at the Tennis Indoor Stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday (13/10).
The Kick Off of the President’s Cup was also held in conjunction with the Grand Final of the Free Fire Indonesia Masters Season 2.
The presence of the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup is inseparable from the government’s support for esports through collaboration between the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Creative Economy Agency, and the Ministry of Communication and Information.
The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the Presidential Esports Cup, Giring Ganesha, said that the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup is a joint commitment by the government and various parties to develop and advance esports in Indonesia.
Therefore, holding the 2021 Esports President’s Cup carries the tagline #EsportsUntukNegeri.
“Today we officially start the entire series of Esports Presidential Cup 2021. With great hope that esports and esports athletes in Indonesia will continue to grow and bring achievements to the nation. We show and prove that in esports, Indonesia can and Indonesia is the champion!” said Giring Ganesha.
In contrast to the inaugural event, there is an increase in the level of the tournament in the 2021 Esports President’s Cup. From previously being a national championship participated by Indonesian esports athletes, this time it has increased to a regional level in Southeast Asia.
The 2021 Esports President Cup will also be participated by esports athletes from neighboring countries, namely Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
Presidential Chief of Staff, Gen. TNI (Purn) Moeldoko, said the government’s orientation towards the development of Indonesian esports was to enter the global arena.
The increase in the level of the tournament is intended so that Indonesia can compete competitively with other countries in the field of esports.
“In accordance with the vision of Advanced Indonesian Superior Human Resources, the holding of the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup brings enthusiasm and optimism that young Indonesian human resources are able to compete globally and are able to make the nation’s name proud in the field of esports,” said Moeldoko.
“The potential of our athletes in esports is extraordinary. Likewise, in terms of the creative economy, the potential of our esports industry can also compete globally. Therefore, our goal through this Esports President’s Cup is how to make Indonesia a beacon of esports, at least in Southeast Asia,” he added.
The presence of the 2021 Esports President’s Cup also adds to the tiered competition system needed by esports as a sport. This is in line with the commitment of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to develop esports in various multi-event championships such as the National Sports Week (PON), SEA Games, and Asian Games.
Meanwhile, in terms of information technology infrastructure, the Ministry of Communication and Information provides full support for the development of esports.
The rapid growth of the ecosystem and the esports industry will spur telecommunication industry players to innovate and improve the quality of digital infrastructure.
Giring ensured that the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup featured several games, namely Free Fire and eFootball PES 2021 which have international levels for the careers of Indonesian esports athletes, one casual game Mobile Premier League, and one national game that is still being curated by the National Game Curation Board.
By participating in national games in the 2021 Esports Presidential Cup, it is hoped that it will open up space and become a trigger for the growth of the original Indonesian game industry.
Currently, there are five national games that have passed the first curation stage. Later, only one game will be selected in the second curation stage and then competed in the 2021 Esports President Cup.
The five games are; Battle of Satria Dewa, eSport Manager, Lokapala, Pirate Mobile War, and Ultra Space Battle Brawl.
“There are a number of parameters that are considered by the curation board, where the Creative Economy Agency and the Ministry of Communication and Information are fully involved in each process. The first is that this game must be developed by local Indonesian developers. Second, fulfill the elements of esports and competition, whether this game has great potential as an esports. Then the third must be playable, must have the feasibility of the game mechanism. Lastly, originality, it must be ensured that all game elements are made locally, not just re-skins from engines from abroad,” said Giring.
After the Kick Off, the series of Esports President’s Cups will roll to the qualification stage, both regional qualifications for countries in Southeast Asia, as well as Indonesian national qualifications.
The Qualifying Finals in Thailand will take place on 19 October 2021. The Vietnam Qualifying Finals will be on 26 October 2021. The Malaysia and Singapore Qualifiers will be on 14 and 15 December, respectively, 2021. While the Philippines and Cambodia will be on 21 and 22 December, respectively.
The national qualification stage will be divided into two regions, namely East Indonesia and West Indonesia. The East Indonesia Qualification Finals will be held in Surabaya on 11-12 January 2021 and the West Indonesia Qualification Finals will be held in Bandung on 18-19 January 2021.
Finally, the Grand Final round will bring together all the Qualifying Final Champions, on 1-2 February 2021 in Jakarta. Meanwhile, holding the 2021 Esports President’s Cup also opens the taps of support from various sponsors to be involved in the development of esports in Indonesia. Full support was given by BCA and Blibli.com as the main sponsors of the 2021 Esports President Cup.
