RRQ Hoshi Exclusive: Andrian Pauline discusses the ONE Esports MPL Invitational and ambitions at M2

RRQ Hoshi wants to win the M2 World Championship.

RRQ Hoshi is considered one of the best teams in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang scene. Not only in Indonesia, but in the international arena as well.

RRQ’s achievements are extraordinary in MPL ID. They are the only team with three MPL title belts, namely seasons 2, 5 and 6.

Lemon and friends’ special achievements were made in 2021. How not, the King of all Kings was able to win three tournaments in a row, namely MPL ID Season 5, MPLI Season 1, and MPL ID Season 6.

The series could actually have been more perfect had it ended with the ONE Esports MPLI title, which will be the last major MLBB tournament in 2021, especially to face the M2 World Championship in 2021.

The fact is not so. RRQ Hoshi actually lost in MPLI. Directly advancing to the quarter-finals through the unique Champion’s Draft system, they fell at the hands of Alter Ego 2-0.

CHAMPION’S DRAFT RRQ HOSHI IS NOT A TROLL

RRQ Hoshi received harsh criticism when selecting the teams in his bracket, then the assumption that they were not 100 percent in MPLI. Until finally, the CEO of RRQ Hoshi, Andrian Pauline, revealed what really happened.

The first is the issue of the Champion’s Draft, which was actually planned by the management, not just a team decision.

“During the draw we didn’t want to play it safe. We really want to challenge ourselves, if for example we lose, it means we don’t deserve to win either. This is management planning, not just a team. In fact, initially we wanted to include all teams from Indonesia in the RRQ bracket,” he said exclusively to ONE Esports.

“Everything has been carefully calculated, and indeed Alter Ego is better than all the current teams, including RRQ Hoshi.”

“I find this MPLI format interesting. Personally I wish there were formats like this to continue. So don’t lose, because in a tournament like this only the winner will benefit,” he said.

When ONE Esports asked if there was no consideration of prizes in designing the draft strategy in the Champion’s Draft, AP confirmed that it was not like that.

“We are not thinking about prize money, more about providing an interesting treat. Moreover, a week before MPLI, rumors of LJ to EVOS were blowing very hard. The expectations of the Indonesian MLBB community are also high. So we want to see to what extent (strength) EVOS is? We have great respect for EVOS and Alter Ego, so we want to see the best strength of the two when they meet in the early rounds,” he explained.

RRQ HOSHI’S PROBLEMS IN ONE ESPORTS MPLI

AP confirmed that RRQ Hoshi did face quite a number of obstacles ahead of the MPLI. Even so, that doesn’t mean they really plan to not be optimal in the tournament. He revealed a number of team issues at MPLI.

“We have to remember that in 2021 RRQ Hoshi has never lost a tournament. Starting from MPL ID Season 5, MPLI Season 1, to MPL ID Season 6. Regardless of the struggle, we never lose and complete the task optimally, “explained AP.

“Indeed this year we have more motivation to win seeing 2021 like that.chaos‘ due to the failure in MPL ID Season 4 and M1. By the time we have won three tournaments, the other teams both at home and abroad, they have started to pay attention to the objectives and read RRQ’s performances.”

“Our preparations were minimal for MPLI because there was a change in META there. Usually we can adapt quickly and always think out of the box. But because there are one thing or another, call it the demands of sponsors for winning, there are events here and there plus too long holidays, the point is that the preparation is not optimal. Plus there’s a little overconfidence of the children,” he said.

M2 BIG MOTIVATION

However, AP considers what happens in the team is important. Because, they get wisdom and can practice even harder.

Not to mention that the focus of several RRQ Hoshi players is already on M2. Look at Vynnn, Lemon, and Xinnn, the three pillars that failed in last year’s M1.

“In fact, there is a lesson in losing at MPLI for RRQ. There are lessons to be learned and show that we are not that good even though we have won three times in a row,” he said.

“There are still a lot of things that need to be improved, more training, maximizing the preparation. So yesterday’s defeat made the children more aware that there are still many peers,” said AP.

“Some of our players are also looking forward to playing on stage during M2. The point is that there is more motivation than other preparations,” he added.
