Riot Makes Changes For VPN Users at LoL Wild Rift.

LoL Wild Rift’s open beta is currently entering its 3rd week and as expected, this game has a lot of fans and has become the number 1 game in every country that has access to the open beta.

But what Riot Games didn’t expect was how many players from outside the open beta region had played this game using a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

With so many VPN users playing the game, Riot said they were having a lot of trouble and decided to make some changes to solve it.

Changes for VPN Users

In an announcement that Riot released on the LoL website, they stated that the number of players from outside the open beta region using a VPN was beyond their expectations.

“While we were monitoring the in-game experience, we discovered a variety of in-game issues that included players already using a VPN to log in from outside the beta region.”

Some of the problems that occur are:

Language Difference
Matchmaking got messy
lag spikes that make the game unplayable for everyone — not just VPN users

That’s why Riot inevitably has to come up with a solution that maybe not everyone will like.

“We have explored ways to protect the gaming experience for the largest number of players and concluded that the best solution is to prevent VPN access from the highest volume VPN services outside the beta region, with immediate effect.”

“We will continue to evaluate whether additional VPN services need to be added to the list.”

Of course this is a pretty tough decision for Riot because they definitely want all players from all over the world to play LoL Wild Rift.

However, the open beta is currently only available in some parts of Asia, and if VPN users are really ruining the open beta player experience, Riot will have to make a decision that puts open beta players first.

Impact for Indonesian players

Fortunately, players from Indonesia will not be affected by this change because Indonesia is part of the LoL Wild Rift open beta area and players don’t need a VPN to play it!
