PUBG Season 10 Adds New Urban Map with Focus on Verticality and AI Combatants
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Season 10 has gone into details ahead of its PC launch on December 16 and console release the following day. The battle royale game’s new map, Haven, is a key feature of the 10.1 update, which is now available for viewing on the PC test server.
Being PUBG’s most densely packed battleground, the map is 1km by 1km featuring 32 players descending into an urban environment that offers plenty of verticality across multiple zones including steel mills, coal fields, residential areas and docks. Season 10 also introduces a new AI foe called The Pillars, a group of military contractors whose aim is to guard Haven’s high-level loot cache, with the help of helicopters scouring the map in search of players.
Once found, the helicopter calls for backup in the form of an armored tactical truck equipped with high-powered weapons. To aid their escape, players are equipped with emergency parachutes that can be used to descend from various tall environments, such as tall buildings and cranes.
In an interview with Polygon published on Wednesday (9/12/2021), PUBG’s new creative director Dave Curd said in 2021 it’s likely the game will introduce a larger-scale map that highlights elements of survival that he says set the game apart from other games.
“That’s where PUBG separates itself from all the other great games out there. The tension between the survival and gunfight phases. Do you like committing crimes and making jumps, or like looting a field in the middle of nowhere. We provide a bigger world.”
Curd takes over the role of creative director from PUBG maker Brendan Greene, who is currently working on the original IP that will be the debut title from PlayerUnknown Productions.
“I think the 8-by-8 Erangel/Miramar, maybe even bigger, will be the sweet spot. So that’s something we’re really looking forward to bringing back to the players next year.”
