Valve Announces Dota 2 Boston Major Invitation Team, RRQ Enters Regional Qualifiers!
The day before the Dota 2 Boston Major open qualifiers, Valve announced the list of teams invited directly as participants as well as teams invited to take part in regional qualifiers. The invite list is quite interesting with some names that I find surprising. In addition, after previously not being invited, the Indonesian team was finally invited to participate in the regional qualifiers.
As you can see above, the Boston Major invited team consisted of three teams from China (Wings, Newbee, and Ehome), two teams from America (Digital Chaos and Evil Geniuses), two Southeast Asian teams (Execration and MVP), and one team from Europe (OG).
Teams like EG, DC, and Wings deserve to be invited for their achievements at The International 2021 as well as in the tournament offline/LAN after TI6 (for EG and Wings). Some teams like Execration, Ehome, and MVP look surprising and perhaps controversial. However, just like the other teams on the roster, they also had a pretty convincing performance in the LAN tournament after completing the roster this season.
In addition to the invited participating teams, Valve also released regional qualifying teams for four regions: China, Southeast Asia, America, and Europe. As usual, plus the two open qualifier winning teams from each region, the teams in the regional qualifiers will compete for two each slots to fly to the Boston Major.
Yup, you’re right. This time, the Indonesian team Rex Regum Qeon was invited as a regional qualifying team and had to compete with strong teams, namely Team Faceless, Fnatic, Mineski, Sig.Trust, The Mongolz, and TNC Gaming. Will RRQ be able to get a place in the Boston Major this time? Who knows, we can only support and pray.
The open qualifiers for the Boston Major will consist of two waves. The first wave will start tomorrow for two days, while the second wave will start on October 25 and also last for two days. The winner of each wave will enter the regional qualifiers which will take place from 27 to 30 October.
