Turn a Razer Phone Into a Laptop
In more than a year, Razer has demonstrated a prototype technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in a bid for the company to stand out. This year, the company has launched Project Linda, which looks like a laptop PC but acts as a storage area for the Razer Phone that transforms mobile devices into Android-based laptops. In other words, through Project Linda, Razer Phone’s gaming gear can be turned into a laptop.
What is Project Linda?
Project Linda takes on a similar form to the Razer Blade Stealth gaming laptop, but replaces the trackpad with a docking port that connects to the Razer Phone via USB-C. The phone screen is reflected on the Project Linda screen and the phone itself becomes a trackpad. In certain games, this phone can be used as a secondary screen and works like a companion application.
Razer Phone has a 1440p 120 Hz screen, Project Linda currently only has a 13.3-inch 1080p 60 Hz screen. Regarding this difference, Razer explained that the difference was to adjust the resolution of the two devices and the refresh rate to a new level.
All the processing capabilities of the laptop come from the phone, which consists of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip and 8 GB of RAM running on Android. At full capacity, the laptop battery is said to be able to fully charge the Razer Phone three times. The keyboard is fully functional on Android and features Chroma RGB backlighting. A 3.5mm audio jack and a USB 3.0 are also attached, and you can connect a mouse via USB.
The Linda project does not yet have a release schedule or price range because it is still in the concept stage. Razer has a history of showing prototype technology at CES that didn’t hit the market. In 2021 there was Project Christine (a module-based PC) and in 2021 there was Project Valerie (a triple screen laptop). However, Linda seems to be the most realistic concept.
Razer Phone Specifications for Project Linda
Talking about Project Linda, which makes the Razer Phone convertible into a laptop, of course we have to talk about the Razer Phone specs as a base. There are also Razer Phone specs, such as a 5.7-inch 2560x1440p screen. This resolution is similar to that embedded in many high-end gaming monitors and the display is very sharp. What makes it unique, is the refresh rate feature, which is similar to G-Sync or Freesync, and can increase to 120Hz. Most other phones, can only reach 60Hz only.
It’s refreshing to see Razer enter the high-end phone market and disrupt a bunch of leading phone manufacturers like Google, Apple and Samsung. One drawback of this phone is that it doesn’t use an OLED panel like many other flagships and instead has an IPS LCD. This technology makes the screen not display the true black level offered by OLED displays.
The Razer Phone uses top-tier Android specs. The phone is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SOC coupled along with 8GB of RAM. The battery size of this phone is 4,000 milliamps which is able to make this phone last longer than other cellphones when used in normal use. Although it comes with 64GB of built-in storage, this phone has a microSD card slot that can expand storage up to 2 terabytes.
The Razer Phone has an 8 megapixel f2.0 front camera which is combined with 2 cameras on the back. One of the rear cameras is 12MP f.175 and the other is 12MP f.26. The bad news is that this camera is too bad. Overall, the image looks too soft and less clear. Also, the rear camera oddly shoots almost everything in forced portrait mode, so only a specific part of the photo gets centered.
A software update of this phone has the potential to address some of these issues, but if you’re looking for a great camera on a smartphone, then it’s recommended that you focus on another phone for now.
The Razer Phone has more than one great speaker. This is the best smartphone speaker on the market. Razer phones run on Android Nougat 7.1.1. However, Razer stated that it has plans to update the operating system to Android 8.0 Oreo this year. The phone comes with a variety of Razer themes that you can download along with additional settings that let you optimize battery life.
That’s the discussion Razer Phone can be turned into a laptop. Hope it is useful!
