The Chongqing Major Group Phase Recap
After two days, the group phase of The Chongqing Major was finally over. Who started the round playoffs in upper and lower bracket already determined.
For those of you who don’t know, The Chongqing Major group phase divides 16 teams into four groups. Each group then plays with the format double elimination/GSL. The two best teams from each group start playoffs from upper bracket, while the remaining two have to start from lower bracket.
Almost all groups have results that more or less meet expectations. In group A, Virtus.Pro and EHOME came out as group leaders. Virtus.Pro qualified first after successively defeating EHOME and TNC. After that EHOME then followed from lower bracket.
Results that match expectations also occurred in group B, where the two leading teams PSG.LGD and Team Secret came out as group winners. PSG.LGD left the group first, followed by Team Secret.
Group C is one that is hard to guess. But even though using stand-in, Team Liquid managed to come out as group winners, followed by Vici Gaming. One result that was beyond expectations in this group was J.Storm who was stranded at the bottom of the group. Looks like they haven’t really gotten along after recruiting Fear into the team.
Finally in group D, Fnatic was able to easily defeat Evil Geniuses and became the first team to leave this group. But Evil Geniuses did not take long to overtake Fnatic and become the two best teams in group D.
