PUBG Haram, Players Deserving of Flogging!
The Ulama Consultative Council (MPU) of West Aceh Regency has again issued its controversial fatwas. After previously having banned the PUBG game, now the Aceh MPU has asked for the application of the caning law for players who play PUBG shooting games and the like.
According to Teungku Abdurrani Adian as chairman of the MPU, the caning law is needed because the game displays elements of violence in a vulgar manner. Which is considered to violate the values of Islamic law. Therefore, for players who are found to have violated it, they deserve to be punished by caning in public.
PUBG Players Sentenced to Whips
“So it is very appropriate in Aceh as a sharia country, perpetrators who carry out unlawful acts which are prohibited in Islam, are very worthy of being dragged away, given sanctions to be punished with lashes according to the rules in force in Aceh,” said Teungku Abdurrani Adian in Meulaboh, Friday (23). /10/2021), as reported by Antara.
Adian further emphasized that in accordance with Qanun (Perda) Number 6 of 2021 concerning Jinayat Law. His party asked the Aceh Provincial Government to immediately implement the fatwa. He also asked the Central Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to support the fatwa that had been issued by the Aceh Province MPU.
“The MPU is also advised to lobby the Aceh government to make this online game haram fatwa as a guide for implementing Islamic law in Aceh,” he said.
MPU also considers that PUBG war games and the like have more harm than benefits. In addition, the MPU also emphasized that although until now there has been no application of the caning law, players who are still determined will be held accountable in the hereafter.
“The PUBG game has indeed issued an unlawful fatwa by the Aceh MPU, although there has been no application of sanctions, but as a Muslim, if they continue to play the game, of course they will sin. They will also be responsible for their sins in the hereafter,” said Tengku Abdurrani Adian.
Unlike the chairman, Tengku Abdurrani Adian. MPU deputy, Teungku Faisal Ali actually asked for a clear legal instrument before the discourse was realized.
“Regarding whipping, there must be a decision, the issue of discourse is okay, but he must have a legal instrument,” said Lem Faisal, Teungku Faisal Ali’s nickname to Tagar, Saturday, October 24, 2021.
“This means that there must be a legal umbrella first, so that even if it is whipped there is no problem, the important thing is that there is a legal umbrella,” said Lem Faisal.
The MPU explained that this fatwa arose because of the consideration of the negative impact on players, especially young people. Moreover, this game clearly shows scenes of war which are worried that it will have a bad impact on their psychology and morals. Like doing brutality and violence.
Saudi Arabia Holds PUBGM Tournament
If Aceh applies the caning law to anyone caught playing PUBG, Saudi Arabia actually opens up opportunities for gamers to compete with skills in a competition. Precisely in July 2021, Saudi Arabia successfully held a PUBG Mobile competition entitled ‘Jeddah Season Festival’.
Taking place at King Abdullah Sports City, the competition in the Arab country managed to attract a total of 50 participants. Not only men, this tournament is also open to women. In addition to PUBG Mobile, other games that are also competed in this tournament include Super Smash Bros, FIFA, and the fist fighting game Tekken.
History of Sharia Law in Aceh
Regarding sharia law applied in Aceh, there is little information that the implementation of sharia law in Aceh actually emerged after the central government gave space to the Veranda of Makkah to regulate regional autonomy in the fields of religion, education, and customs.
This policy was given by the central government after the DI/TII rebellion led by Daud Beureueuh. Shortly after that, in 2003 Aceh issued a qanun that regulates alcohol, gambling and adultery. Until finally, the punishment of caning was issued for citizens who violated the norms of decency.
Even though the purpose is good, unfortunately, it is not uncommon for these laws to be about the figures who drafted the laws themselves. One of them is a member of the MPU below who shows his disgrace in public because he was caught having sex on the beach with a married woman.
MPU Member Sentenced to Whip
This, of course, is in stark contrast to what happened to one MPU member named Mukhlis some time ago. Like a weapon, Mr. Mukhlis, who usually oversees the implementation of Islamic sharia law in Aceh Besar District, was actually caught in the middle of committing adultery in a car on the beach with another woman.
As a result, the pretentious man who drafted the caning law was successfully awarded 28 lashes by the executor. Originally the fatwa targeted adulterers, unfortunately it was the initiator who was affected. Recently, the Ulama Correctional Council (MPU) has been in the spotlight regarding the controversial fatwas it issued.
Not only domestically, these fatwas have even been in the spotlight of foreign media. Starting from the caning law for adulterers, the rejection of the Women’s Football League to PUBG game players because they are considered insulting to Islam. The question is how long will Aceh be the moral police for its citizens? Do you agree with the whipping fatwa for PUBG players?
