PGL Announces Dota 2 Minor Tournament, PGL Open Bucharest
Some time ago Dreamhack announced DreamLeague Season 8 which is the first Dota 2 Major tournament of this season. This time, PGL did not miss announcing the PGL Open Bucharest which was the first Dota 2 Minor tournament.
PGL itself is not a foreign name in the competitive realm Dota 2 or maybe esports overall. They are the ones behind last season’s Major and The International tournaments, and often hold major tournaments in games others like PGL Major for CS:GO. So, don’t be surprised if they also dive into Dota 2 since Valve announced the Minor and Major system by third parties for Dota 2.
This PGL Open Bucharest offers total prize pool US$300,000 (approximately Rp4 billion) and gather eight of the best teams from around the world in Bucharest, Romania in October. Two of the eight teams were invited teams, namely Evil Geniuses from America and LGD Gaming from China. The remaining six will be contested in the qualifiers consisting of six separate regions, namely North America, South America, China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the CIS. Each region will only give one team allotment to advance to the LAN phase of this tournament.
The PGL Open Bucharest qualification phase is divided into two phases, namely open qualification and closed qualification. The open qualification will start in September, and for Southeast Asia itself will be held on September 9 2021. After that, the qualification will continue to the second phase, which is closed qualification.
Unfortunately, until this news was published, PGL had not announced the format that would be used in the open or closed qualifiers. We also don’t know if the closed qualifiers will have invited teams or are purely drawn from the open qualifiers. We will give updates latest so get more information.
Open qualification will take place on the Faceit platform, and registration is now open. So, if you want to take part, don’t miss it!
