How to Make Section Breaks
The uses for using section breaks are as follows:
- Can set the format of different headers and footers
- Can make the format on different page numbers on each of the same document
- Can create different page borders on the same document
- Can create different paper orientations in the same document
- Can create different page margins in the same document
Below I will explain how to create a Section Break by setting different page numbers in the same document:
1 . The first thing you have to do is open the Microsoft Word document that you want to number the pages for.
2. After that you go to the menu Insert.
3. After entering the Insert menu, in the tool Headers & Footers You can click On menu Page Number. And choose Bottom of Page and you can choose the style of page numbering as you wish. In this tutorial I chose page numbering on Plain Number 3.
If you have, then you can see the results, each sheet of the document already has a page number in the footer.
4. After that, to make it easier to see the document sheet, you can make it into two parts. The trick is to enter the menu View and click Two Pages. Then the display of the document sheet will be two.
5. To give a different page numbering between the cover and the introduction, then you can put your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph where you want to differentiate the page numbers. To better understand you, you can look at the image below.
After that, you can enter the menu Page Layout, and on tools Page Setup You can click menu Breaks. After menu Breaks opens, then you can select Section breaks with options Next Page.
6. Then you, can double click on the footer of the introduction which displays the page number of the foreword. And after that you can enter the menu Insert, then you click Page Number and choose Page Number Formats…
7. After the Page number format box appears, you can select Number format with options i, ii, iii, … . Then click OK. So, you can see that the footer in the preface and the document below it has changed to Roman numerals. While the footer on the cover, is still a number.
8. To change the footer in the introduction and body, then you can repeat the above method. That is by placing your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph in the body and then selecting menu Page Layout. After that, you can enter the menu Page Setup and click the Breaks menu and select Next Page.
9. After that, you can double click on the document footer Contents and go to the Insert menu. After that on the menu Headers & Footers you click Page Numbers. Then click Page Number Formats…
