Microsoft indirectly helps bring Windows 10 to Apple Silicon

NESABAMEDIA.COMLast month, Apple launched a custom M1-based ARM chip and the developer community is working on bringing their apps to the new platform.

At the same time, Parallels also began to develop their own software that aims to bring Microsoft’s operating system, namely Windows 10, to the world of Apple Silicon. And some time ago, Parallels had announced their first Preview Build which allowed a number of users to try it out early.

And it turns out, Parallels is not alone in developing Windows 10 for Apple Silicon, because Microsoft has indirectly helped the company realize the project.

It’s not clear how the two collaborated, but a statement from OneDrive’s Vice President, Omar Shahine, revealed how proud he was of the collaborative effort via his Twitter account.

This is quite funny, because Apple has previously said publicly that what could bring Windows to Apple Silicon was a decision that only Microsoft could make themselves, and that too if they wanted to.

“Everything is up to Microsoft. We have the core technology for them to do, running an ARM version of Windows, which of course can then support the use of x86 applications. But it’s a decision that Microsoft itself has to make, licensing the technology to users to run it on Mac devices. And of course, it’s possible for Macs to do that,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP of Software Engineering earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the ecosystem in Apple Silicon continues to grow rapidly, and Microsoft itself has invested heavily in optimizing their software to deliver a new chip.

A number of applications made by Microsoft, such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and other well-known applications, have received support to run on Apple’s M1 processor. Because this has become part of Microsoft’s planned strategy to be able to present things that can run as smoothly and without problems as possible on the latest hardware made by Apple.
