Here's how to know RAM speed

The important question: which components are the most important to pay attention to when a user operates his computer? The answer is RAM. This computing component is responsible for managing the programs/software that run when the device is running.

Of course there is a point where a user may want to update their computing device. And buying the latest RAM is a form of renewal that anyone can do. RAM is also important for another reason: it can be used as a benchmark to check for problems that arise in the computer.

In other words: it is very important for users to know the capacity and speed of the RAM embedded on top of the motherboard.

To find out the RAM capacity embedded inside, the user just presses the button Windows Key + R above the keyboard. This combination will bring up the ‘Run’ dialog box.

Type ‘dxdiag’ (without quotes) in the dialog box, then press OK. Then a Windows window will appear full of information about all things related to the user’s computer device. There is information available about the amount of RAM that is embedded on the motherboard.

In essence, knowing how much RAM capacity is embedded in the computer is an easy thing to do. The next question is: which one is important between speed and RAM capacity?

The standard RAM capacity for this era is a minimum of 4GB, with a note that users only use their device for typing and browsing. If you need a computer to do photo editing with load standard, then 8GB of RAM is more than enough. The case is different when we talk about RAM speed.

RAM speed generally refers to one sense: RAM frequency. Understanding the speed of RAM is not far from there. The size is usually shown in MHz, which is usually followed by the DDR version listed in the RAM specs (ex: 8GB DDR4-2400). In the DDR4 type, for example, the standard frequencies sold in the market are usually in the 2133MHz range. Then do we need RAM with high frequency? Not really.

RAM performance or speed depends on several things such as bandwidth, frequency, total number of channels, quantity, DDR type, latency, and even processor speed. Even so, it seems there is nothing wrong if users buy RAM with high frequency.

If the user wants to do upgrade RAM components, first compare the old RAM with the RAM you want to buy. In other words, users need to know the old RAM that was already installed in the device. This method will help users to do upgrade more easily.

Unfortunately Windows 10 does not provide adequate tools for this purpose. The hope lies in third-party programs like CPU-Z. Install CPU-Z and it will run an analysis of the computer system the user is using.

In short, CPU-Z will provide a lot of valuable information, including the frequency of RAM installed on the user’s computer.
