Dota 2 Boston Major Group Division, TI6 Finalists Meet Again
The day before the group phase began, Valve announced the group divisions for the Dota 2 Boston Major. All teams will start playing Saturday local time, or Saturday night before the early hours of Indonesian time.
The format applied in this Major is different from the previous Major. For the group phase, the 16 teams will be divided into four groups and will play in the GSL group format with the match format best of three (an explanation of the GSL format can be read here).
This group phase serves as seeding or the determination of the opponent for the phase playoffs which will be played with the format single elimination and match format best of three, then best of five especially in the finals.
After the group phase ends, the team that tops the group has the right to choose one of the teams that ranks third or fourth from the other groups. After that the team that is ranked second in the group has the right to choose the remaining opponents or not yet selected.
Judging from the division of the group, group B is the heaviest group. Two of the four teams that make up this group, Virtus.Pro and Newbee, are the teams that I peg as candidates for the top four, while the remaining two, MVP Phoenix and Team NP have the potential to be in the top eight.
Wings Gaming and Digital Chaos (DC) meet again. Both of them seem to be competing for the top spot in group A, but LGD.FY playing with two substitutes could be a surprise. While WG.Unity really have to play 200 percent to be able to provide resistance in this group.
Then for another group, Evil Geniuses (EG) seems a little lucky because they get a group that is not too difficult. They only have to face CompLexity and Ad Finem who passed the qualifying round, as well as EHOME who have not performed very well so far.
For Group D, OG on paper should be able to top the group, while Team Faceless can be ranked second if they can improve their record against teams outside Southeast Asia. However, even though it looks minimally prepared, we can’t underestimate IG.V and LGD.
Judging from the group division, I think I still believe in the predictions I made yesterday. How about you? Will the division of this group make your favorite team get an easy path to the round? playoffs?
