How to Transfer Steam Games To Another Computer

How to Backup Restore

You can start by clicking on Steam at the top right and selecting the backup and restore game option. Select the game you want to move/backup. Pemmzchannel uses the Dota 2 game example for this option. Steam will tell you how many empty sizes you need on your storage. If you are using a DVD, you can also move the file to a blank DVD, Steam will automatically split the file size into DVDs.

After you copy the backup file from Steam, you can move it to another computer. To restore, the method is almost the same as the backup process. You just need to go back to the menu at the top left of Steam and go to backups and restores. But this time you have to choose the restore option. Then you can direct Steam to the backup folder that you have moved. Next steam will tell how much space is needed to restore. If your game is not the latest it doesn’t matter, Steam will immediately download the latest patch, then the game will be ready to play.

How to Copy Paste

You can open the folder location where your game is installed by Steam. Usually located in the folder Steam/steamapps/common/(gamename). The name of the folder can change depending on the drive you are installing on and the version of windows you are installing.

Or if you’re not familiar with the folder structure, you can also right-click the game you want to move from Steam and select Properties. Then in the local files tab you can select browse local files to open the location of your game folder.

You can copy the game folder that you want to move to the external storage of your choice. Pemmzchannel will use the example of Counter Strike: Global Offensive. But you can also move Dota 2 in the same way.

If you have finished copying the game folder you want to move, you can download paste its back in the same steam folder again.

Install the game as if you want to install the game by downloading. Steam will automatically detect the game file, so you don’t need to download it anymore. Sometimes steam will download some small files to adjust the compatibility with your computer/laptop.

If your game file is not the latest one, don’t worry Steam will automatically continue updating your game to the latest version, and you are ready to play your favorite game again. The total time of this process depends on the size of the game you want to move.
