How To : How to Choose an NVIDIA Graphics Card As Needed

As we know in the computer world, we can’t be separated from the graphics card or known as the video card. Maybe most of you are a little confused about how to have a graphics card that fits your needs. So here we will discuss a little about the graphics card. In particular, choose an Nvidia graphics card.

choose Nvidia graphics card

We will first take a look at the family of NVIDIA graphics cards, one of the favorite brands for most of you, none other than the GeForce series. There are several series for GeForce, including GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, and others.

In choosing an Nvidia graphics card, the first digit in this code indicates the generation of the graphics card, for example 9 from GTX 980 which means this graphics card is the 9th generation graphics card for the GeForce family, and also applies to GTX 1080 which means 10 in the code indicates 10th generation. The 9th generation means that this graphics card is made using the Maxwell architecture, and the 10th generation means that it uses the Pascal architecture.

The last two digits, like 70 on the GTX 1070 means that the graphics card is in the same generation. There are several codes that are quite mainstream NVIDIA use, namely 30, 50, 60, 70, and 80. The larger this number, the faster the graphics card in the same generation. That doesn’t mean the GTX 980 has the same performance as the GTX 1080, the GTX 980 is the fastest graphics card in the 9th generation, but that doesn’t mean it’s the fastest in the 10th generation. So, it’s very important to remember when you are offered by a seller when choosing an Nvidia graphics card. .

Actually in these codes, there are also the words “Ti” at the end of the code, which has a faster performance than without the Ti code, for example the GTX 1080 Ti has much higher performance than the GTX 1080. Rumors of Ti on NVIDIA has the abbreviation for Titanium, but NVIDIA has never confirmed this.

Besides GeForce GTX, NVIDIA also has another family, namely Quadro, a special family for those of you who prefer a professional-grade Nvidia graphics card. Quadro Graphics Cards are specially designed both in hardware and software to support all professional applications such as CAD to Adobe. The advantage of Quadro over GeForce is that the driver has been certified by various organizations and companies and has the Double-Precision Floating Point feature enabled so that it has much better 64-bit computing performance compared to GeForce. As for the SKU, the codes used are M4000, M5000, P5000, P6000, and others. This time it’s easier than GeForce, because the letters K, M or P in the very first code mean K for Kepler, M for Maxwell, and P for Pascal. The last 3 digits i.e. 4000, 5000, 6000, etc. stand for performance, similar to the last two digits on GeForce.
