Within a week, Monster Hunter Rise sold 4 million copies
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Capcom confirmed Nintendo Switch’s Monster Hunter Rise sold 4 million units worldwide, during its first weekend of sales. This figure is an impressive start for the action-adventure game, although it is still slightly adrift of sales figures at the launch of Monster Hunter World of 5 million.
However, keep in mind that Monster Hunter World itself is released on a multi-platform basis, while Monster Hunter Rise is exclusively for the Switch. Meanwhile, Capcom claims that since the first game in 2004, the Monster Hunter series has sold more than 66 million units as of December 31, 2021.
Monster Hunter Rise is releasing starting Friday (26/3/2021) alongside the Switch console a special edition Monster Hunter Rise and three Amiibo that allow players to unlock new armor sets. Following the release of Rise last week, Capcom shares surged to an all-time high in Tokyo.
In January, Capcom told their shareholders that they are targeting a 20 percent increase in operating income this fiscal year. This is in line with the “promising start” for pre-orders for the Monster Hunter Rise game.
For your information, even though Monster Hunter experienced success in Japan, its popularity only started worldwide after the release of Monster Hunter World (2021) for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This game set a record by shipping 15 million copies. Total shipments have reached 16.8 million units as of December 2021.
Meanwhile, in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, COO of Capcom Europe, Stuart Turner said he was optimistic about the prospects of his game in the European market.
“We are working very closely with Nintendo in Europe to make Monster Hunter: Rise a success in the region. We firmly believe that the massive success of Monster Hunter: World will transfer to the fan base we have on Nintendo Switch.”
