Combat System in Gotham Knights Completely Redesigned for Co-op

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Although it doesn’t have an exact release date yet, Gotham Knights is planned for a 2021 release. This game is also one of the most anticipated games, especially for DC Comic fans. Developed by WB Games Montreal, which previously worked on Batman Arkham Origins, one thing that sets this game apart is the presence of a two-player co-op mode.

Announced last summer, Gotham Knights lets gamers take control of one of four heroes: Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl. This game will take place after the death of Bruce Wayne aka the Batman.

This action game can be played solo or in two-player co-op and will be released for PC, as well as current and next generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Gameplay takes place in the “dynamic and interactive” open world of Gotham City, where players will face villains like Mr. Freeze to unravel the mystery surrounding the secret group, the Court of Owls.

Each hero has a variety of unique abilities, weapons, and combat moves that players can take advantage of. Speaking in a recent interview with Games Radar, executive producer Fleur Marty said players will get more variety and challenge from this new Batman game, with some of the “DNA” from the Arkham game still being used.

“We have completely redesigned the combat system to work well in co-op. Of course, some of the mechanics will be familiar to people who have played and enjoyed the Arkham series before. But in many ways, very different.”

The producers added that Gotham Knights allows players to switch to a different character whenever desired, as long as gamers return to The Belfry to do so. Players also don’t have to worry about the differences in the levels of the characters, because each character is said to have the same level.

“Since story progression is shared among all the characters, it also makes sense that you don’t need to level them up from the start every time you want to switch (characters). It also remains very coherent with our narrative.”

“Because the other members of the Batman family are always present in the background, whether you’re out in the world fighting crime or unraveling mysteries, they remain dormant. So it made sense that they would also advance and become stronger. “

Patrick Redding, creative director of Gotham Knights, also commented on the game’s focus on the two-player co-op experience. According to him, the two-player dynamic fits the fantasy and setting of Gotham City. He guarantees the gameplay of Gotham city will not feel cramped even with two players.

“The duo or team-up is a central feature of the universe that also appears in comics, animation, film, and TV versions. Gotham has lots of alleys and rooftops, so the gameplay footprint has to be compatible with that.”
