Spider-Man Review: Miles Morales, Success Meets Expectations

Luckily, PlayStation 4 gamers can finally still play this game, after Sony decided to release this game also for the PS4 platform. Even so, the impression of the “next generation” of this game is still felt, both in terms of graphics, themes, and gameplay that offers a variety of adventures to play.
GAMEFINITY.ID had the opportunity to try out this game directly on the PlayStation 4 platform, shortly after the global launch of this game on 12 November. Receiving positive responses from various game critics, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales deserves to be the most anticipated game by lovers of the action-adventure genre. Here’s the discussion.
Gameplay (8.5/10)
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set a year after the events of the previous game. For gamers who have played Marvel’s Spider-Man (2021), especially those who have played The City That Never Sleeps DLC, you must be familiar with the figure and background of Miles Morales. In the previous game, the player also had time to control Miles in several segments, even though at that time he had not yet received the super spider power.
Just like Peter Parker, Miles got a genetic spider bite that eventually gave the 17-year-old superpowers and took on the role of Spider-Man. After struggling to shake off the trauma of his father’s death due to Martin Li’s attack, Miles gets special training from Peter Parker who acts as a brother figure (Spider-bro) as well as a mentor to master his new abilities.
At the beginning of the game, players will also fight with Spider-Man to stop the Rhino from being released (due to Miles’ carelessness) during the prisoner transfer. That’s where Miles finds out his super power, Venom Strike, is the power that characterizes him. For gamers who have played Spider-Man (2021), it will be familiar with the gameplay offered by Miles Morales. Although of course this game presents a new adventure. In addition to being able to carry out a number of Story missions, there are also several side missions that are almost the same as Spider-Man, ranging from finding a missing cat, helping New Yorkers with various problems, stopping ongoing criminal acts, to completing combat, stealth and traversal challenges. .
Coupled with other missions from the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man application that can be completed. Another thing that Spider-Man veterans will be familiar with is J. Jonah Jameson’s Just the Facts podcast, which tells a story line of events that have taken place during the game from JJJ’s perspective. This is what makes gamers must be careful in carrying out attacks.

Although it was originally prepared for the PlayStation 5, the author himself still thinks that the PlayStation 4 version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales has managed to bring a number of improvements in terms of graphics. Some of the visual effects that are displayed, especially when players perform venom strikers (punch, dash, jump) look so fitting and show that this game deserves to be prepared as a “next generation” game.
Still using the Insomniac Engine that Insomniac has used since Ratchet And Clank, the appearance of the character design is indeed detailed with the right CGI polish. This makes the character’s expression look so natural and not stiff. Plus, the time setting of Spider-Man: Miles Morales is winter, so we can enjoy the snowy city of New York. The snow effect that is presented also looks natural, and adds to the impression of a holiday or festival in the game.

For veteran Spider-Man players, of course, they are very familiar with the control mechanism to move Miles Morales. The buttons used to hit, jump, dodge, use gadgets and swing are the same as those used in Spider-Man (2021). The difference lies in the special abilities of Miles Morales, namely venom strike and camouflage which Peter Parker does not have.
But for those who have never played this game, it won’t be difficult to master the controls after playing the game for a while. Moreover, at the beginning of the game there is also a tutorial that makes it easier for gamers to master Spider-Man’s movements. To be sure, the control mechanism made in the game is relatively simple and makes it easier for players to control the character.
