Sony Confirms PlayStation Store Closing on PS3, Vita, and PSP This Summer

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Sony has announced plans to close the PlayStation Store on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable this summer. Confirming reports from earlier this month, Sony said it would close the PS3 and PSP online marketplaces on July 2, followed by the Store Vita on August 27.

After store closure, users can still re-download and play previously purchased games, as well as PS Plus games as long as they remain customers. Players can also still access pre-purchased video and media content, as well as redeem PlayStation Plus games and vouchers.

Users can still download the content they own onto their PS3, Vita or PSP by accessing the Download List on their respective device. Sony says players will lose access to the following features:

  • Players will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP digital content, including games and video content.
  • Players will no longer be able to make in-game purchases through games on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.
  • Players will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, or PSP devices after the PlayStation Store and purchase functionality for these devices is closed. PSN Wallet funds will remain in their PSN accounts, but players will only be able to use wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on the PlayStation Store web, PlayStation App or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

Sony has closed the old web version of the PlayStation Store that allowed users to buy PS3, PSP, and Vita games online. Users who wish to purchase digital products for the system can now only do so through the console itself.

Previously, the PlayStation Store would stop offering TV and movie content to buy or rent from August 31, 2021. Announcing the move in early March, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Head of Video Business Vanessa Lee said the decision was driven by the growth of streaming services on PS4 and PS5.
