Sony claims no one has a problem with PS5's lack of storage space

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Jim Ryan claims that his company has not received complaints from consumers regarding the lack of storage space (storage) owned by the PlayStation 5.

“We didn’t hear that (complaints). We see what happens when people open their PlayStation boxes and start using them. We feel it will be fine. We’ve been monitoring hard drive usage on the PS4 and everything we’re seeing suggests we’re going to be fine.”

The next-generation console reserves about 20 percent of the 825GB internal SSD storage for operating functions, leaving about 664GB usable for software storage. The problem is, some games require relatively large storage space. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, for example, takes up nearly a fifth of the available space, while NBA 2K21 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (including Spider-Man Remastered) each require over 100GB of storage space.

To complicate matters, the PS5 doesn’t support SSD expandable storage at launch, although that feature will be enabled via a future firmware update. PS5 games also can’t be stored on an external hard drive, although Sony claims it’s possible for gamers to take advantage of this in the future.

PS5 owners can finally expand their internal storage with a Sony-certified off-the-shelf SSD. However, the price of a hard disk with PS5 bandwidth capacity is likely to be expensive in the near future.

As one of the current solutions, PS5 offers players more flexibility in installing their games. Gamers can only install certain components of the game, for example multiplayer or single player only. PS4 games stored in USB external storage can also be played (backwards compatible) without having to be installed on the next generation console.
