Some PS5s Have Noisy Sounds, Different Fans Are the Cause

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – A number of PlayStation 5 (PS5) users admitted that the fan of their new console made a very loud buzzing and roaring sound. Some console owners claim their console is noisier than other PS5s. As it turns out, this is because Sony uses a different fan in each PS5 unit.

Quoted from Techspot, this finding was reported by a site from France called Les Numeriques. They found that there were several PS5 units whose sound was quieter than other units. After disassembling several PS5 units, it was found that there were five different fans on the console they were disassembling.

The silent PS5 uses a fan with 23 thin fan blades. While the louder PS5 uses a fan with 17 blades that looks thicker. Fans with fewer blades should, in fact, need more rotation to produce the same wind as fans with more blades.

Although there are many other things that can cause the fan to be louder, from this it can be assumed that the fan with 17 blades is the cause of some PS5 units being louder than others. If you already have a PS5 and are curious about what kind of fan to use, you can open the white side panel of the PS5 to find out.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t void the console’s warranty. But if you try to replace the fan then your PS5 warranty will be void. However, if you are afraid it is better not to try to disassemble it at all. What is certain is that the noisy fan seems to be one of the obstacles in Sony’s next generation console, apart from the limited product availability.
