PS5 DualSense Works on PS3 and Switch, But Not on PS4

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The release date for PlayStation 5 accessories, including the DualSense controller was recently moved up to October 30 in the United States and November 12 in the United Kingdom. This means US gamers can already buy PlayStation 5 accessories this weekend, including controllers from the next-gen console.

Several buyers tested its compatibility with various devices. The DualSense controller for PlayStation 5 works with older PlayStation 3 consoles, but doesn’t work on PlayStation 4. Uniquely, DualSense can also be used on Nintendo Switch.

Quoted from Video Game Chronicles, DualSense compatibility was tested by YouTuber MidnightMan. DualSense is completely undetected by the PS4 console, while the PS5 pad can wirelessly connect to the PS3. This is likely due to the console’s compatibility with common Bluetooth controllers.

Even so, PS4 players can still use DualSense by connecting DualSense to their PC or Mac via USB and streaming PS4 games via Remote Play. As Twitter user BrokenGamezHDR points out, DualSense will also work with the Nintendo Switch. The condition is if a third party adapter is used to connect the controller.

Sony has confirmed that the PS4 controller will not work with PS5 games. However, DualShock 4 can work with PlayStation 4 games if played on PS5 via backwards compatibility. Special peripherals, such as racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks can be used with PS5 games.

Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets connected via a USB port or audio jack can also work on the PS5. The same goes for the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller. Lastly, the PlayStation Camera can also work with the PS5 to play supported PS VR games. PS VR users can get a PlayStation Camera adapter which will be provided at no additional cost.
