Rockstar Gives IDR144 Million Prize for Players Who Can Reduce GTA V Load Time By Up To 70 Percent
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Grand Theft Auto Online loading time on PC can now be reduced to be faster. This is thanks to the findings from fans, who are now awarded 10,000 USD or around Rp. 144 million by Rockstar Games for their findings.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that a Github user-made solution, tostercx to reduce GTA Online load times will be officially implemented in a future game update. Early on tostercx (t0st), claims to have found a way to reduce GTA Online load times by 70 percent. Apart from that, they also released a fix with a warning that the mod is just a “proof of concept, not for casual use”.
For those interested in the technical point of view of such things, tostercx also writes a detailed analysis of what went wrong, and how they fixed it. In simple terms, the throttling is caused by “single thread CPU crash when starting GTA Online”. They themselves think that the problem can actually be solved quickly, “no more than one day” by the developer.
Rockstar has confirmed that tostercx’s findings are accurate.
“After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that t0st did reveal aspects of the game’s code related to load times for the upgradeable PC version of GTA Online. As a result of this investigation, we have made several changes that will be implemented in future game updates,” Rockstar said.
Rockstar did not say when the fix would be available, nor did they confirm whether t0st’s estimate was correct where the loading time reduction could be as much as 70 percent. However, they acknowledged having contacted t0st, to thank them for their efforts.
Shortly after Rockstar confirmed that a load time fix was in the works, tostercx said they were awarded a $10,000 bounty as part of Rockstar’s Bug Bounty program. The company confirmed to PC Gamer that payment was being made.
