Riot Games takes part in esports scholarship program in the Philippines

Interested in AcadArena’s Esports program, Riot Games took part in it.

Some time ago, as ONE Esports also reported, that players in the Philippines are now have the opportunity to get a scholarship to become an esports scholar, the result of a partnership between Philippine telecommunications services provider Globe Telecom and Esports AcadArena, the premier campus esports program in the Philippines.

Through Esports AcadArena also presents the Alliance Program, as an esports organization for selected students that has a support system for monthly tournaments, exclusive league access, industry support, and scholarships to esports organizations that house these students and also involves 13 universities in the Philippines.

Now Esports AcadArena has received support for the program to run well after announcing a collaboration with Riot Games Southeast Asia to increase its campaign to promote esports education in Philippine schools.

This collaboration is expected to result in bigger and better student play initiatives across the Philippines. The first thing that will result from this partnership is the holding of the University Alliance Cup (UAC) which will feature the FPS game, Valorant.

The UAC tournament is scheduled to start on October 17, 2021 and will feature a prizepool of around US$9,275 (Rp138 million). In addition, the team that won at UAC will also represent the Philippines in the PVP Esports Campus Championship.

Furthermore, the most likely tournament that will be presented at UAC is League of Legends: Wild Rift, when the new mobile MOBA game from Riot Games is officially launched. Now the game is still in the closed beta stage.

“Esports at the college level is an important step in nurturing the next generation of professionals in the player sector and video game industry,” said Chris Tran, Head of Esports at Riot Games for Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

“We are excited to work with Esports AcadArena and Globe Telecom to bring our game to campuses in the Philippines.”

On the other hand, Riot Games Southeast Asia also supports the Youth Esports Program (YEP) as another initiative based in the Philippines that focuses on promoting gaming as a co-curricular activity that will certainly be very beneficial for Filipino students. YEP was founded by Mineski Esports and the Philippine Collegiate Champions League.
