Netflix Partners with Ubisoft to Promote Assassins Creed Adaptation Series
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Netflix and Ubisoft have signed a content partnership to adapt a series from the world of Assassin’s Creed. The deal will give Netflix exclusive rights to create live action, animation and anime series based on Ubisoft’s video game franchise. Assassin’s Creed is one of Ubisoft’s best-selling franchises, with sales of over 155 million units since its debut in 2007.
The first project to be adapted is a live action project produced by Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik of Ubisoft Film & Television. As Deadline reports, the live action series is currently looking for a showrunner. Peter Friedlander, Vice President for Netflix original series, said he was thrilled with his company’s partnership with Ubisoft, to bring the rich and diverse story of the world of Assassin’s Creed to life.
“From its fascinating world of history and its immense global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to making epic and thrilling entertainment different. This is to provide more immersion for our fans and audiences around the world to enjoy.”
Just a reminder, in 2021 Assassin’s Creed was appointed to the big screen starring Michael Fassbender. The film grossed a box office gross of US$240.7 worldwide. Netflix is also reportedly working on a new film based on two Ubisoft properties, The Division and Beyond Good & Evil.
Meanwhile, the next game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is slated for release on November 17, 2021. Developed by the team Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins at Ubisoft Montreal (plus 14 supporting studios), Valhalla features protagonist Eivor, a Viking raider and a clan leader from Norway set in the ninth century AD.
