Kaspersky Finds Hundreds of Phishing Pages Stealing PUBG Mobile Account

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Cybersecurity experts at Kaspersky have discovered hundreds of phishing pages aimed at stealing PUBG Mobile accounts. Cybercriminals are clearly preparing themselves very well for the new gaming season.

“The phishing page we found was designed in a very convincing way, both in design and in the interface, which is usually very familiar to gamers,” said security expert at Kaspersky, Tatyana Shcherbakova, in a written statement, Wednesday (11/25/2021). from ANTARA.

Whenever PUBG Mobile starts a new season, game developers often offer small incentives in exchange for playing their games. Meanwhile, cybercriminals like scammers are not missing out on a great opportunity to take advantage of new gaming activity.

Kaspersky has identified at least 260 phishing pages, which offer users the opportunity to win new items. To get the prize, users only need to submit their game account via their Twitter or Facebook profile.

After failed entry, users will be asked to provide additional information, including the alias they used in the game, phone number and other personal details. As a result, the scammers get not only the user’s social media accounts but also these additional personal details — all of these attempts are aimed at selling the user’s game account and making a profit.

In order to avoid becoming a victim of phishing with this scheme, Kaspersky advises gamers not to take part in any sweepstakes, apart from the official game website, then also check the information through official sources. If the related activity did exist, the game developers probably wouldn’t have kept it a secret.
