Involved in Gambling Scandal, CS:GO Player from Indonesia Banned for 5 Years

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – A total of 35 CS:GO players were convicted of a gambling scandal. One of them is Indonesian player, Wilson “willyKS” Sugianto. The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) recently announced that it has officially sanctioned a total of 35 players.

“Without a unified understanding of the implications of inappropriate betting behavior and compliance with anti-corruption mechanisms (such as the Anti-Corruption Code), Esports runs the risk of facilitating attractive fraud opportunities for criminals. Therefore, it is important for professional players to understand that violation of the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code is a serious matter.”

Wilson and three other players, Matthew “Jam” Castro and Alvin “Gravinz” Changgra received the most severe sanctions, namely bans from entering the competitive world of CS:GO for five years. All three players were proven to place bets to ensure their own team lost in more than 10 matches.

While other players also face sentences that vary, ranging from a minimum of one to five years. ESIC itself divides the penalties and violations into five matrix levels, with Wilson et al getting the heaviest penalties (level 5). ESIC is now pushing for further investigation into the gambling scandal.

While the investigation is currently limited to professional CS:GO events in Australia, ESIC said they are also conducting investigations into other CS:GO leagues in North America and Europe, and a large number of other leagues in various game titles.

“It is imperative for professional players (at least) not to place bets on revenue-generating games in order to maintain the integrity of the esports landscape internationally and reduce the potential for bad actors to take advantage of our sport.”
