How To Install iOS 14.5 Beta To Unlock Your Phone Even If You Wear A Mask

Apple iOS 14.5 beta has been released, one of its great features is that you can still unlock your Face ID protected phone from your Apple Watch even if you are wearing a face mask. This feature can be enjoyed after downloading the iOS and watchOS beta versions.

Here’s how to install iOS 14.5 beta version

  • First of all you have to open beta.apple.com on your iPhone device. You are required to register if you have never participated in the public beta before. If so, all you have to do is tap the login button.
  • Once logged in, tap on the arrow under the header, and go to Register/Enroll Your Device. Previously, it was highly recommended to create an archived backup of your device, as iCloud backups are not always accessible if you are forced to switch back from the beta version. How to make the backup is on the Register page.
  • When you’re done backing up your device, you can scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap the Download Profile / Download Profile button. From there the device will tell you to review the profile before installation.
  • Review your profile, select the profile for the watch by scrolling up the screen and selecting WatchOS from the list. From there you can tap on the Download Profile button and then hit Allow.
  • This will automatically open the Watch app, where you just have to press the install button. The watch will automatically restart. In the meantime you can set up a profile on your phone by going to Settings and then Downloaded Profile.
  • Press the install button and the phone will restart automatically.
  • Once the profile is downloaded and the phone restarts, you have to update the phone, then only the watch.
  • After successfully running iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4, you can enable the unlock feature with your watch.
  • You do this by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, scrolling down to the Unlock With new Apple Watch option. Tapping on it activates the feature without needing to do anything to your watch.

What must be considered is that by activating this feature, your cellphone no longer recognizes your face when you are masked but every face that is masked. So if someone else is wearing a mask, he or she will be able to unlock your phone if they are about three meters away from you.

However, the Apple Watch will buzz every time you unlock your phone and let you know that your phone has been unlocked. At the same time, a button appears to lock it again. By pressing the button the phone is immediately locked again and requires a passcode to unlock it again. The notification works only if your phone is misused by someone else.

In addition to the unlock feature with Apple Watch, the iOS 14.5 update also allows users to activate AirPlay 2 for the Apple Fitness+ service. This feature is intended by Apple to allow users to stream their training sessions to a Smart TV or other AirPlay 2 compatible device.

Another feature that is no less interesting is dual SIM card support on the 5G network on the iPhone 12 line. With this feature, users will be able to enjoy 5G services in other countries while traveling, without the need to swap the main SIM card and reset settings.

Now by sharing these interesting features, the iOS 14.5 beta version is worth a try for use on your iPhone device. (via)
