First Month, Sony Ships 3.4 Million PlayStation 5 Units

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Sony reportedly shipped 3.4 million units of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in the first four weeks of its availability. This figure is the highest ever for a PlayStation console. The report was seen by the boss of an independent game industry consultant from Japan, Katan Games, named Serkam Toto. Toto uploaded the information on his Twitter account @serkamtoto

“Sony will also ship between 16.8 and 18.0 million units in 2021 thanks to increased supply. More units will be ordered for the Asian region starting in January,” he tweeted, as quoted by WCCF Tech from Tempo, Tuesday (12/29/2021).

Although unconfirmed, the figure of 3.4 million is in line with reports from earlier this year. The report reveals that Sony plans to ship 10 million PS5 units before March 2021. The Japanese game console maker originally planned to ship between 5-6 million units in March. However, increasing demand made Sony change plans.

The PS5 launched last month worldwide. The console launch line-up was pretty solid, featuring exclusive games like Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game isn’t revolutionary, but implementing the DualSense functionality helps the PS5 feel like a proper new generation system.

Therefore, Sony is considered to have established itself as a console manufacturer that will bring gamers into a new era. The software and UI combined with Sony’s new Tempest AudioTech, SSD, and DualSense controller really make this console stand out from the crowd.

Released globally on 12 and 19 November 2021, PlayStation 5 will be launched in Indonesia on 22 January 2021. Gamers can already pre-order from 18 December 2021. Online and offline ordering times vary depending on retailer operating hours.
