Fantastic, Epic Games Spent 168 Billion To Give Free Games For The First 9 Months

GAMEFINITY.ID, Purworejo – Over the past few years, the Epic Games Store has become known to us as a game store with its free games given out every week. Some even say “Claim first, play later” because they often give away free games. But unfortunately most of us just claim the game without playing it at all.

Indeed, this free game has become one of Epic Games’ weapons in boosting the number of users. But do you know how much it costs Epic Games to make such a free game?

Recently, a document shared by GameDiscoverCo founder Simon Carless revealed that Epic had to spend more than $11.6 million dollars to give away free games in the first nine months of its operation, which is between December 2021 and September 2021 .

The document is part of the lawsuit document for the trial of the feud between Epic Games vs. Apple on 3 May. For those of you who don’t know, this feud began in August last year where Epic Games allegedly violated the rules for in-app purchases on the App Store, which led Apple to remove Fortnite from the App Store.

Epic Games

From the document, we can see how much Epic Games has to pay for each game with the number of users claiming the game. For example, Subnautica, which became the first game to be released for free, was claimed by 4.6 million users at a cost of 1.4 million dollars, the second most expensive after Batman Arkham with 1.5 million dollars or around 21.6 billion Rupiah.

Interestingly, Epic Games did not pay a penny for the game Metro: 2033 Redux, this may be due to the Metro Exodus game which was exclusive for one year at Epic Games in 2021. Unfortunately we can’t see how much money Epic Games spent on the GTA V game because it only arrived until now. September 2021 while GTA V is free in May 2021.

With a total cost to pay of $ 11.6 million during its first nine months, which may be quite a lot for us, but this is nothing when compared to its revenue from the game Fortnite which reached 28.7 billion dollars or around 400 trillion rupiah more.

What do you think? Huge amount isn’t it?
