EA Takes Codemasters from Take-Two Worth IDR 17 Trillion

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Electronic Arts managed to seize the racing game developer Dirt and F1, Codemasters from Take-Two Interactive, which previously intended to acquire the game developer. EA successfully won Codemasters by offering 1.2 billion USD or around Rp. 17 trillion, outperforming Take-Two’s offer of US $ 994 million or equivalent to Rp. 14 trillion.

With the successful acquisition of Codemasters, Electronic Arts has increasingly dominated the sports game market by adding more racing game developers. The developer of the FIFA and NFL games previously also had a number of racing games like Need for Speed. Their main competitors are Sony with Gran Turismo and Microsoft with Forza, which have exclusive content for their respective platforms.

“We believe there is a very exciting opportunity to bring together Codemasters and Electronic Arts to create an amazing and innovative new racing game for fans. Our industry is evolving, the racing category is evolving, and together we will be positioned to lead in a new era of racing entertainment,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement.

For your information, Codemasters is one of the oldest British game developers, being founded in the 80s and producing hits like Dizzy for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. In recent decades, Codemasters is best known for creating racing games such as the Dirt series, Grid, and Formula. 1, and last year acquired the developer behind Project Cars.
