Overview

Who says gaming notebooks with a mix of quality and design must have a high price tag. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is able to prove it in the world of gaming notebooks with mid-end specifications, this gaming machine is equipped with an Nvidia Geforce GT750M graphics card and an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor which is certainly still relatively strong producing the best performance in running the latest games, but still included at a lower price when compared to other gaming notebooks, especially the eye-catching design will not make this notebook look cheap. And the ability to upgrade this notebook is also worth considering. Because, the Y500 is also planned to be circulated in an SLI version, like its predecessor which used the GT650M.

Lenovo Y500 comes with a shape that at first glance looks like a square because of its small size with dimensions of 39 x 387 x 259 mm and although it weighs 3kg, this notebook is not too heavy as a gaming notebook with a 15.6inch display size, so it is perfect for you. who likes gaming where on-the-go. The body, which is covered in a black brushed aluminum chassis, looks elegant and offers high durability. However, the cover layer and the workspace are very easy to leave fingerprints.

The impression of a fierce gamer is also shown in some parts; The most obvious is the keyboard which is decorated with red on each side, especially when the laptop is turned on with a red backlit. For the red backlit on this keyboard, you can also set it to 2 levels of light intensity or it can be turned off. Then on the speaker we can see a glimpse of the red color from the inside of the hole, making this notebook look even more beautiful.

The Y500 features a Lenovo signature curve chiclet keyboard called AccuType with a slightly curved inward shape in the middle of the keys, to produce a grip that fits the user’s fingers. This keyboard also proves to be very comfortable to use typing or playing games for a long time.

The freedom to access the touchpad especially for OS Windows 8 is also supported by the size of the touchpad which is quite wide, but without separate left and right click buttons, only marked as a separator between left and right clicks at the bottom.

One of the special features of this Lenovo Y500 is the slot Ultrabay on the right side of the notebook, where you can not only place the Optical Drive on this notebook, but you can also customize it with separate components from other Lenovo such as SLI Nvidia GT750M GPU, HDD tray, or Cooling Fan. Even though the Ultrabay can only function if it uses official Lenovo accessories, this is still an advantage to be reckoned with.

Unlike the latest gaming notebooks today, which mostly use anti-glare displays, Lenovo actually carries a glossy screen, so it feels less comfortable when used in the sun. So Pemmz Holics should avoid areas that are over bright if you want to focus while playing games.

Benchmark

Immediately, PemmzHolic can see below, which is the result of several performance benchmarks from the Lenovo Y500. As a gaming notebook with Nvidia GT750M, it is still classified as a score that is slightly beyond prediction. If we compare it with the GT650M like the Compal QAL31, the geforce GT750M on the Lenovo Y500 this time gives extra performance of more than 35%, even in 3DMark Vantage, the GPU score of the GT750M is 50% higher than the GT650M 2GB GDDR3. The GT750M on the Y500 is indeed more fitting when compared to the GT670M. Like the QAL31, the HD 4000 graphics chip features are also included disabled so that users can easily activate the IDD feature of this notebook.

The performance of a GT750M also looks very powerful compared to one series below it, namely the GT740M which has been maximized in the Xenom W650EH2.

Pemmz itself was a little surprised by the syntetic performance of the Y500, a GT750M was able to surpass the performance of a GTX660M on the Xenom NP6370 at some review points. Unfortunately, Pemmz has not had time to review various real games. Just a few popular FPS games like BF3 and Crysis 3.

Conclusion

The combination of gaming specifications but with a “beautiful” design in an “affordable” price range, it will be very difficult to find a match for the Y500 with the specifications currently offered, 15.6″ Full HD, GT750M options (up to SLI) which are still very rare in the market. , makes Lenovo (and IBM) lovers guaranteed to be interested in this type. Although the CPU still relies on Ivy-Bridge, it is still very capable if you look at Haswell’s development which is still not optimal at this time. Maybe if the battery capacity can be a little bigger, it will be better able to compensate for the components in the Y500 which are quite power hungry. However, it seems, the design that limits the manufacturer increases the battery capacity.

Pros:

– Overall performance, especially VGA is very good.

Cons:

– The fairly thin design forces limiting battery capacity.

Fairs :

– CPU still uses the Ivy-Bridge platform
