Review and How to Install the Latest Debian Linux

mrfdn – Today I am using Debian linux.

I think I’ll be using this distro for a long time.

Here are some reviews and reasons that I can note as reasons.

1. Debian is one of the most stable distributions on planet earth.

The cool thing about this distro is that it is widely used as a server distro. To run a website, and so on.

I use this distro for light coding and design work only.

2. The installation process is easy for beginners

As an old distro, at first I thought that a distro like this would look ordinary, nothing interesting, and the installation would be complicated.

But after doing so it was not so difficult to install.

The only problem is in the settings after installation.

After the installation process is complete, I have to do a few more things. As

– Install flutter and android studio, here the important note is that we must first install git before installing flutter and android studio so that flutter doctor runs normally.

– Install gimp and inkscape from flatpak

– Install gnome extension to maximize its performance and functionality.

– Tried the gnome theme, it was really cool. Very minimalistic.

– It turns out that the way to change the font to a smaller one is by going to gnome tweak.

– Useful for me to know some linux command line.

– Finally can be happy to use gnome again.

– Because the installation is complicated, I plan not to repeat doing the same thing. I’ll just take care of it.

– Stable when running android studio. Especially now that my hardware has 8 GB of memory. So you can run Android 10 smoothly.

– To do multi-tasking feels smooth.

– It’s true what a reviewer on youtube said, that debian is the most stable version of linux on earth today.

The terminal command I did ::

sudo apt-get install neofetch
sudo apt-get install gnome-extension
sudo apt-get install htop
sudo apt-get install gnome-screenshot
sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions
sudo apt install gnome-tweaks

3. Distro empty

Here I choose the Debian live version, not blank.

Because after seeing the installation process on youtube to install the blanks, we must connect to the internet to download the installation package.

So I chose the gnome version debian iso only.

Why did I choose gnome? The reason ::
– Because I want to try other than kde and xfce only
– Because I believe that my laptop can run this desktop environment smoothly because it has installed 8 GB of memory.

The software package that I got on the live cd turned out to be standard. Just like pop default packs! Os. Which happens to also use the gnome desktop as default.

4. Old but stable kernel

At the time of this installation, I got linux kernel version 4.19. Meanwhile I know that the latest kernel version is version 5.8.

Once I have tried the latest kernel version which is a backport version, but because it is not compatible with the software I use, I just return it to the default kernel.

5. Constraints I got on Debian

I often use the screenshot feature, now on Debian I get this screen screenshot function is not stable.

So I use an alternative screenshot application, namely Flameshot.

Conclusion

Debian is one of the best Linux distributions ever made.

By installing debian, our hope is that we just want to run the computer normally, the application runs smoothly and there are no errors.

This distribution is fairly stable by default. Just like Arch Linux, Debian is one of the reference distros to create derivative distros such as ubuntu, pop!os and others.

Tips, after installing debian, you don’t have to do anything anymore. Changing the kernel can make the system run unstable.

Debian is not for those who like to switch linux distros.
