Proven Match Fixing, Newbee Dota 2 Team Banned Permanently
The former 2021 champion of The International Dota 2, Newbee, received a severe punishment and was permanently banned by the Chinese DOTA 2 Professional Association. The reason is, surprisingly Newbee is indicated to do Match fixing or score fixing in matches in the China DOTA 2 Professional League Season 2 and DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1 tournaments.
This was successfully revealed by EHOME’s coach, Zhang ‘xiao8’ NingLi Yongbo. According to him, the cheating act in the form of fixing the score by Newbee players occurred during Newbee’s match against the Avengerls in the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3 qualification round.
Proven to do Match Fixing
After conducting further investigation, the China DOTA2 Professional Association (CDA) finally imposed punishment by banning Newbee from participating in all official Dota 2 tournaments in China. In the letter issued on May 15, 2021, the Chinese DOTA 2 Professional Association stated that: “Relevant evidence of fraud has been synchronized with all parties and has been submitted to Valve as well as Perfect World”.
“Imba Media firmly takes action against all actions that violate the spirit of e-sports, and firmly maintains a fair and competitive competitive environment. We hope all participating clubs see this as a warning.”
Through an open letter, IMBA media stated that the permanent ban given to Newbee who was proven to have done Match fixing deserves to be used as a lesson for other organizations. IMBA even asked organizations to monitor management and its players so as not to take any actions that violate.
Teams & Players Banned Permanently
This ban is not only given to the Newbee team, but also to the players who are members of the eSports team who participate in getting the same ban. Newbee players involved and getting the same ban, including:
- Xu ‘Moogy’ Han
- Yin ‘Aq’ Rui
- Wen ‘Lipeng’ Wizard
- Yan ‘Waixi’ Chao
- Zeng ‘Faith’ Hongda (2012 The International Champion)
- Feng ‘feng’ Yitsin (Dota 2 team leader – currently investigating to find out more)
As a result, Newbee players can no longer participate in competitions affiliated with the Chinese professional DOTA 2 association, including events from ImbaTV and MarsTV. Worse yet, the sentence is valid for life. Unfortunately, even though it has been proven to have committed a fraudulent act, Newbee has denied all the accusations made against him. They even intend to appeal the sentence.
“We understand and respect the decision of the CDA alliance. However, since the founding of the Newbee eSports club, we have never participated in match-fixing and gambling activities with the club or branch as the main body (essentially the organization knows nothing about the arrangement and is purely player action). We will appeal the penalty awarded to Newbee eSports.”
In the end, the title as the champion that Newbee had won with Invictus Gaming was in vain due to this stupid act. A bleak future is also ready to welcome them if they are still pursuing a career as professional gamers, especially in the realm of DOTA 2.
Eliminating bad habits such as Match fixing by the Dota 2 Newbee team and using cheats in a game is not easy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t.
