One Esports Dota 2 World Invitational Singapore Group Recap: LGD and Liquid Dropped Early

After two days, the group phase for the One Esports Dota 2 World Invitational Singapore tournament is finally over. Out of a total of 12 teams, eight of them qualified for the round playoffs, while the remaining four had to fall early. Surprisingly, two of the teams that lost were Team Liquid and PSG.LGD.

Both teams are members of the same group, namely group B. In the format round robin best of two, they had to play against Gambit Esports, Vici Gaming, Na’Vi, and Evil Geniuses. Not an easy opponent, but still can be defeated considering the composition of the players of both teams.

Unfortunately Team Liquid itself actually appeared very disappointing. They ended the group with four 0-2 losses and drew only once. That means during the group stage they only won one games just. This is certainly very disappointing considering that a few weeks ago they managed to finish in the top six at the MDL Chengdu Major and qualify for the DreamLeague Season 13 Major.

Meanwhile, LGD only finished with three draws and two defeats. Although better than Team Liquid, the result was not enough to make them qualify from the group stage. This is a bad sign for LGD considering that previously they also failed in the DreamLeague Season 13 Major qualifiers after being knocked out in the open qualifiers.

Group B itself was won by Evil Geniuses, followed by Gambit Esports in second place. Both will start playoffs from upper bracket. While the two teams below him, namely Na’Vi and Vici Gaming, have to start playoffs from lower bracket.

Meanwhile in Group A, which is somewhat tougher, Alliance and Team Secret have shown their abilities as the leading European teams this season. Both came out as group winners with quite convincing results. Meanwhile Virtus.Pro and TNC surprisingly ranked third and fourth. Team Aster and J.Storm unfortunately had to drop out of the tournament.
