Materials and Tutorials How to Install Hackintosh High Sierra on a Thinkpad X220 Laptop
mrfdn – Well, I have written an intro about what Hackintosh is at length. Here is a tutorial on how to install Hackintosh High Sierra on my Thinkpad X220 laptop.
Maybe the way I show this can be the same if our computer/laptop specs are the same, namely Intel-based.
Hackintosh install material for Intel Lenovo Thinkpad X220 laptop
Before getting into the installation process, we must first collect the materials. Make sure you have collected some of these files and conditions.
1. File .dmg high sierra downloaded from the Hackintosh zone site. This is a hackintosh file in distro form, not vanilla. Distro by Niresh.
To get it, you must register on the site first, then find the download section and select High Sierra. Choose the Intel version if you only have an Intel laptop, but if you want to try installing it on an AMD laptop, please download it, only the difference is in adding packages. It’s the same because here we want to install it on an Intel-based laptop.
You must install the Utorrent application to download the .dmg file. The file size is about 5 gb.
How to use it is easy, first open transmac, select format, after format select restore dmg file.
3. Find files X220 EFI Master on the Internet. The file contains a kext that will be useful as a thinkpad x220 driver later after the installation process is complete. If you have found it, copy and paste it to the usb drive. Can be on a usb drive that will be used as a mac install.
4. USB flash disk size 8 GB. For the high sierra hackintosh installer file.
5. Hard disk space or laptop ssd to install hackintosh is at least 20 gb, but my suggestion is to allocate around 50 gb so that the system is more spacious.
This applies if Your hard disk partition type is GPT, not MBR. To check it in Windows right click drive C >>
Properties >> Hardware >> Properties >> Volumes >> Populate, then you will see information on the partition style section that says MBR (master boot record) or GPT (GUID partition table)
Why should GPT, because hackintosh can only read the system hard drive with that partition. While MBR is an outdated type of hdd/ssd partition style.
If it turns out that your partition table is MBR, then during the installation process the hard disk will be completely formatted and then converted into GPT. So if there are other partitions such as windows, or linux, they will be deleted.
Make sure you have backed up your important files.
Oh, for those of you who want a dual boot, don’t worry, you don’t have to install windows first.
You can install windows after installing hackintosh without losing the hackintosh high sierra system later.
6. It would be better if you have a laptop or other computer that can be used as a tool to follow tutorials, and do important things later. For example, if it turns out that the installation process failed, you have to install windows or linux again or to back up your important files.
I myself do this with a backup computer as a place to backup my files.
7. Time and patience
This is very important, because for beginners the installation method may be very confusing and convoluted.
After all of the above are met, we can move on to the next step, which is Laptop BIOS settings
Installation preparation
Until here the tools and materials are ready.
Make sure this is the bootloader drive on your USB drive something like this.
You already have a flash disk that contains the installer file for hackintosh high sierra. Next we go into the laptop bios settings.
1. Restart the computer
2. Press and hold F1 to enter bios
4. Load the default settings, then make sure ::
Config > Power > Power On with AC Attach > Disabled
Config > Serial ATA (SATA) > AHCI
Security > Memory protection > Execution Prevention > Enabled

After that in the BIOS select the first boot on your UEFI flash disk.
Or you can restart, then hold down f11, then select UEFI Flash disk to enter the installation process via usb.
1. On the screen will appear boot options, do the following settings:
Options >> PCI Devices >> Uncheck
Option >> Graphics Injector >> change FakeID:0x00000000 to
FakeID:0x12345678Options >> Boot args: -v or -v npci=0x2000 or
-v npci=0x3000
2. Then select the installer drive to start the process. If it’s stuck for about 2 or 3 minutes, try replacing it with some of the boot args above.
3. If you have entered the graphic display, first change the date. How, on the menu click Utilities >> Terminal
- In the terminal type date >> Enter
- Type date 0101000018 >> Enter
Here we have to change the date, because this hackintosh distro was made before 2021. Because if it is not changed, an error will appear later in the installation process.
So just follow. Then close the terminal/exit.
4. Next format the partition. choose
Utilites >> Disk Utilities.
This step is very important, you should choose it carefully. Do not let you choose your windows drive (if any). But if you want to format it blank, it will be easier.
Select Show all devices, then Erase.
In the menu that appears, make sure you select the MAC OS Extended Journaled file system, and the GUID partition table, then name the Mac partition with only 1 word. Here I write the name of the partition with the MAC name that I set with a size of 50 gb, Extended Journaled.
Quit disk utility.
5. After that press continue, select agree.
Select Customize then check the following options
- Fake PCID Kext and Plugins
- High Sierra USB Fixes >> Select all
- Laptop Drivers (Kext)
- Graphics >> GraphicsEnabler=yes and Backup graphics kext
- Kexts >> Fake SMC, WIFI & Ethernet, Audio
Press Accept
6. Select the hard disk drive (MAC) where to install and press Continue to start the installation
The installation will take approximately 20 minutes depending on the speed of your hard drive. Here I use my Thinkpad x220 built-in SSD, so the process is a little faster.
7. In the end the computer will restart itself.
After booting, select option then select boot flag -v and equate the boot option settings above:
Options >> PCI Devices >> Uncheck
Option >> Graphics Injector >> change FakeID:0x00000000 to FakeID:0x12345678
Options >> Boot args: -v or -v npci=0x2000 or
-v npci=0x3000
Now we go to our installation hard drive, here I select MAC and then enter.
8. You will enter the Mac OSX setup menu for the first time. Click continue, until finished, enter the user name and password you want.
9. Now you have successfully logged into your Mac osx High Sierra hackintosh desktop.
Wait for the process to finish. Until the red sign on the top right says done.
10. Next setting kext as a laptop driver for hackintosh. Find kext based on your laptop.
Required kext intel hda3000 to get a normal screen resolution, and some other kext as shown below.
To install the kext, go to the kext wizard in the hackintosh high sierra application menu. Then select the kext file to be installed.
12. Next, bootloader settings, open the application
Clover configurator >> select Mount EFI Partition.
On the EFI partition, replace the existing EFI folder with the EFI folder contained in the X220EFI Master.
11. If everything is finished, Restart the computer, then you already have a High Sierra hackintosh system on your Lenovo Thinkpad X220 laptop.
The final word
This is an explanation of how to install a hackintosh on an Intel Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop.
You can follow this tutorial if you have an Intel spec laptop too.
My experience installing this Hackintosh has failed several times. I wrote this article as a note for me if later I wanted to do a hackintosh installation again.
Good luck.
