Malaysian Menpora Calls Terror Shooting Not because of PUBG

Telset.id, JakartaOnline game violence like PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG) should not be blamed for extreme behavior or shooting case in New Zealand. This was said by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia.

According to Saddiq, extremists will continue to carry out acts of violence and brutality, with or without exposure online game.

“Believe me, is there such an online game?,” he said, as reported by The Star, Monday (18/3/2021).

He was asked if the government would ban online game with elements of violence such as PUBG after the terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, last Friday that left dozens of people dead.

Saddiq says online game nothing to do with the violence in New Zealand. “This (incident) is bigger than that. But, don’t be too quick to blame the game on line,” he said.

Furthermore, he questioned whether this incident meant that all should be banned games with elements of gunplay. “I think the shooting in Christchurch is bigger than that,” he added.

“Even before PUBG, this kind of action happened,” he said. Syed Saddiq also said such acts of terror should be condemned by the world.

As is known, the terror shooting in Christchurch killed 50 people. Perpetrators strafe the victim using a long-barreled rifle, like a game in PUBG. [BA/HBS]
