The Ins and Outs of ChromeOS on a “Red and White” Laptop

GAMEFINITY.ID, Denpasar – Lately, the “Red and White” laptop is being discussed a lot because the specifications that are carried can be said to be very low, but the most interesting thing is that this laptop uses ChromeOS. ChromeOS can be said to be very rarely discussed in Indonesia, and there are still many who are not familiar with ChromeOS.

ChromeOS is an operating system released and created by Google, ChromeOS is based on Linux so that ChromeOS can be obtained for free and is free to use. ChromeOS was first released on July 5, 2011.

ChromeOS is an operating system on computers, just like the Windows and macOS operating systems, except that ChromeOS is more designed for “daily” users, meaning that users who do not use their laptop more as a device to complete office tasks, lectures, schoolwork or for entertainment media. The user interface of ChromeOS is also simple and easy to use. Initially ChromeOS was aimed at entry-level notebooks/netbooks so that people could buy laptops at affordable prices but comfortable to use, but for now there are also flagship-class ChromeBook laptops such as the Samsung Galaxy ChromeBook 2.

To run this ChromeOS does not require high specifications to be comfortable to use, unlike Windows which can be said to require much higher specifications to be comfortable to use.

ChromeOS mostly requires the internet to use it, it can be said that all the applications on ChromeOS are web-based (web apps), although you can use a ChromeOS laptop offline, your experience will not be too comfortable or complete. Therefore ChromeOS can be said to be a cloud-based operating system, so it’s not uncommon for ChromeBook laptops to only have 32GB of storage, right?

All laptops with the latest ChromeOS will have access to the Playstore, which means you can download and run apps from the Playstore. Yes, you can run apps on your Android phone on ChromeOS, it’s just that not all apps are compatible with ChromeOS laptops. But at least you can, right?

Because this ChromeOS does not require high specifications, and the OS itself can be said to be very light, so you can expect this laptop with ChromeOS to have a long battery life, making it suitable for students or those who like to travel.

It should be noted, you cannot use applications that are on the Windows operating system or on MacOS, it can be said that this ChromeOS desktop application compatibility is very limited, for example, in ChromeOS there is no Adobe Illustrator desktop application or Luminar 4 AI. Also, don’t expect you to be able to play AAA games on ChromeOS, because AAA games for ChromeOS don’t exist, unless you want to subscribe to Google Stadia or other cloud gaming services.

So the conclusion is (in simple terms) whatever you do on your current browser, can be done smoothly on ChromeOS, the rest of it can’t, at least there is support for android applications that can only be downloaded from Playstore so ChromeOS is very suitable for students or students or office workers.
