How to Install Windows 8/8.1 Until Done! (Full+Image)
On this occasion, I will share a tutorial on how to install Windows 8/8.1 easily, even for ordinary people.
I also explain step by step in as much detail as possible so that you can fully understand each step. But even so, make sure you listen to every step, don’t let anything you skip.
Between windows 8 with 8.1 is not much different. There may be slight differences between the two, such as navigation properties, search features, and tile sizes which have their own characteristics.
How to Install Windows 8/8.1 for Beginners
One of the most prominent characteristics of Windows 8.1 is, there is a start button on the taskbar menu, where Windows 8 is not equipped with this feature.
But don’t worry, the installation process is not much different, so you don’t have to worry. Check out the steps on how to install Windows 8 below:
1. Before Starting the Installation
- As usual, prepare the Windows installer DVD. If you don’t have one, you can install Windows 8 with the help of flash drive, please read tutorial here.
- If what is installed is a laptop, I highly recommend that you plug in your laptop charger right now. It’s very risky when in the installation process or still half way through the installation process, uh suddenly the laptop dies.
2. BIOS settings
First of all, you have to set the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD the first time. When the PC or laptop is first turned on, the first boot is done from the HDD, therefore you must first set it up in the following way:
- Turn on/restart your computer or laptop, then press the button DEL(Delete). To enter the BIOS menu, not all computers/laptops use the same key.
Other buttons you can use include F1, F2, Fn+F2, etc., try one.
- The BIOS menu will appear as shown below. Remember, the BIOS menu display on every computer/laptop is also not all the same. After that, move to the tab Boot by using the button.
- As shown in the image below, the position of Hard Drive or the HDD is located on top of itself, it means the first boot is done from the HDD. Therefore, you have to change it so that it boots the first time from CD-ROM Drive.
- choose CD-ROM Drive, then use the button +/- to move it up to how much in the top position as shown in the image below.
- Don’t forget, insert the Windows 8 installer DVD into the DVDROM of your computer/laptop. Save the configuration you have done by pressing the button F10.
As I’ve said before, not all types of BIOS on each laptop are the same. So don’t be surprised if the BIOS display used in this tutorial is different from the BIOS display on your laptop/computer. For more details about the meaning of BIOS and its types, you can read the article about BIOS that I have shared before.
3. Start Windows 8/8.1 Installation
The steps for installing windows 8 are also not much different from installing windows 10, although there are differences, even then only slightly. Well, look carefully at the steps as follows:
- To start the installation, please press any key so that the PC or laptop boots from the CD/DVD. Oh yes, suppose you meet again with a display like this in the middle of the installation process, don’t press any button, later you will repeat the installation process from scratch.
- choose Indonesian (Indonesian) on Time and currency format. For the rest just let it be default, do not need to change. After that select Next.
- A display like the one in the following image will appear. Please select Install now.
- The next step is to enter product key Windows 8, which is usually included in the same package as the DVD. Then select Next.
Product key: GCRJD-8NW9H-F2CDX-CCM8D-9D6T9
- Don’t forget to check I accept the license terms, then select Next to proceed to the next step.
4. Partition Stage (Please Be Careful!)
- In this step, select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
- For those of you who want to re-install, where your computer/laptop has been installed with a Windows operating system before and want the data on another partition not to be lost, just delete it. Drive 0 Partition 2 (partition C:) and Drive 0 Partition 1: System Reserved, then create a new partition again. After that select Drive 0 Partition 2 as the installation location, then select Next. For more details, watch the following short video.
Notes: For those of you who want to reinstall Windows 8, skip it step number 8-12 and for those of you whose computer/laptop has never installed an operating system at all, or whose HDD is still empty and smooth, please skip step number 7 this.
- As you can see in the following picture, that the HDD space is still empty. What you need to do in the following step is to partition your HDD into several partitions (depending on what you want, it can be 2,3 or more partitions).
- To create a new partition, please select Drive options (advanced) > New, specify the size of the partition according to taste, then select Apply. If your HDD size is 320/500 GB, I recommend giving it a size of 100GB because the following partition is a system partition (partition C:).
- Next select OK for manufacturing system reserved partition.
- Create a new partition again according to your taste. The steps are exactly the same as in step number 9, namely select Disk 0 Unallocated Space > New, then specify the size of the partition, then select Apply.
- choose Drive 0 Partition 2 (partition C:) as the location for the Windows 8 installation, then select Next.
- At this step it takes approximately 15 minutes and your computer/laptop will restart several times during the process. So don’t worry because it’s part of the installation stage.
- And need to remember too, if a black display appears as in step number 1, make sure you don’t press any button.
5. Windows Desktop Settings
- Next give your PC a name, then select Next. In the following step, you can also set the theme color according to your taste.
- Next select Use express setting.
- After that select Create a local account.
- Enter the user name and password if necessary. Without a password, it’s not a problem, but if you want to prevent random people from accessing your computer/laptop, it’s highly recommended to give it a password.
For column Password hint, enter a word or sentence that makes it easier for you to remember your password. Next select Finish.
- Wait a few minutes, after which you will be taken to your desktop.
- Finished! You have successfully installed windows 8 or 8.1. The following displays the Desktop and Start Menu on Windows 8.
Of course, there are several things you must do after successfully installing the Windows 8 operating system.
