Dota 2 Guide: Vision and Tips for Using It
In Dota 2, vision is one of the most important elements in the game, but is sometimes overlooked. Vision provide information on the opponent’s position in minimap, and in the games strategies like Dota 2, information is one of the keys to victory. Know where the enemy is because they have vision The ideal will make it easier for you to make better decisions than your opponent.
Usually, we only take advantage of the vision this is to use Observer Wards. However, there are tons of interactions and manipulations you can take advantage of with vision this.
All units from each team, starting from heroes, creeps, until the building can deliver vision for your team. Each one has a distance vision different. But besides the distance vision they have, there are many things that affect how far and wide vision that you can have in the game.
1. Tree and High Ground
Trees and also high ground is one of the factors that can influence vision, or rather reduce vision that you get.
Trees have a fairly simple way of working, namely blocking vision. Like you in the picture above, each tree will get in the way vision what’s behind it. Well, the more trees where you stand, the fewer there are vision that you get. But on the other hand, reduced vision the opponent due to the tree also gives you room to do gank from an unexpected angle.
In the game you can see that some parts of the map are higher, and some are lower. The interactions that occur at this land level are quite simple. When you are in a higher place, you can see everything that is in a lower place. On the other hand, if you are in a lower place, you cannot see anything that is higher.
From this interaction, you should know that being in lower ground or lower ground is a very unfavorable position. Opponents in high ground or higher ground can see you, while you can’t even if the two of you are very close. That way the opponent can land damage for free before you can reply.
2. Night and Day
Yup, the time in the game and the change of day and night is not just a sweetener and aesthetics. The time of day and night can affect vision in the game.
Almost all units in the game, whether it’s a hero, creeps, or buildings, have distance vision farther away during the day. On the other hand, at night, most units have distance vision smaller or limited. How big is the distance vision each unit during the day and day depending on the unit itself, let alone the hero.
Most heroes have vision noon of 1800 dan night vision of 800 at night. But there are some heroes who have _vision which is also high at night, or at least higher than most other units. Slark for example has vision day and night are the same, which is 1800. Night stalker is the opposite. He has vision which is lower during the day (1200), but greater at night (1800).
3. Flying Vision
Almost all units in Dota 2 have ground vision. It means vision they follow the standard rules, which can be limited by trees as well high ground in the game. However, this rule does not apply if the unit has flying vision.
Flying vision completely ignoring the rules vision standard. This means units that have flying vision can see anything in the distance vision, even though it is blocked by trees or cliffs. The only thing that will limit it is distance vision which may differ and are affected by day and night.
There are several skills who can give you vision manifold flying vision. Some examples include Shrapnel, Firefly, Ice Blast, and Ice Path. Most skills it gives vision as long as it is still active or the duration has not expired.
There are only three units in Dota 2 which gives vision permanently or semi-permanently. Two of them are non-heroes, namely the Eagle from the Beastmaster’s Call of The Wild: Hawk and the Treant Protector’s Eye of The Forest who has Aghanim’s Scepter. Then there are two heroes who can give flying vision, namely the Night Stalker at night and the Keeper of The Light during the day. But to get it both of them have to buy Aghanim’s Scepter first.
There are so many things you can do to take advantage of interactions vision in the game. Here are some of them:
1. Install Observer Wards in Ideal Position
As a player support, understanding the optimal position of Observer Wards is important. You want the Observer Wards you installed to give vision as big as possible. So, make sure you have Observer Wards installed on the high ground or cliffs, and/or those that do not have many trees around.

2. Cut Restricting Trees Vision, Especially Early in the Game
Some of the trees in the game are there to cover things that are important and require your team to be more active or alert when playing. The bounty runes in the Radiant forest, for example, are intentionally surrounded by trees so that you need to move to a certain angle like the bounty runes in other areas. Otherwise, you can see this Bounty Rune when it comes from any angle.
The same is true in lane. Each lane deliberately fitted with a tree on the side. That way the opponent has a corner to do gank, while you should be more careful, or install vision behind the trees.
But you can always manipulate vision of this tree. For example at the beginning of the game, before creeps begins to appear, cut the tree that limits vision. That way, you will get vision normal to the forest, allowing you to see enemy movements from this angle without having to install an Observer Ward.
3. When being chased, take advantage of the tree and High Ground to do Juking
You should already know and have done this trick. When being chased by enemies, take advantage of the trees to avoid enemy sight and attacks. When the opponent is still in the process of animation attack and you disappear from vision, the opponent’s attack will be canceled and he must move and find you. Then while he moves to find you, you can continue to outwit him by moving around the trees. If you feel you’ve gone far enough, you can finally get away.
4. Never Underestimate High Ground Advantage!
This is one of the things that less experienced players often forget. When you for example want to do gank with Smoke of Deceit and apparently met the opponent in high ground, better avoid teamfight or lure the opponent to move down from high ground. You are at a disadvantage because the opponent has high ground advantage.
When the opponent is in high ground, they can see your position easily. However, unless you have vision either from the Observer Ward or skills On the other hand, you don’t know the opponent’s position at all.
In this position, the opponent can freely initiate first to the target they want. While you still have to react to see what happens and have to find out who the opponents are up there.
This is also what makes a crushing attempt base enemy is tough. Because the opponent always has high ground advantage added presence tower. They can attack you freely if you’re not careful, while you have to figure out how to do the optimal initiation.
5. gan at night is easier than during the day
Although not impossible, doing gank during the day is more difficult than at night. During the day, most heroes have distance vision which is quite far. So they can see your movements faster and automatically react faster to dodge.
In the night, your opponent will have vision limited. Even though I also have vision limited, if you have creeps in lane, of course you already know the opponent’s position easily. You automatically have the advantage in initiation because you can move a little closer before your opponent can react.
The same is true when you’re standing on the lane. For example, you are in lane, but you want to stay hidden from your opponent. That means you have to be out of range vision opponent. This is quite impossible to do during the day. But at night, you can easily do it as long as you know the distance vision night. Just stand at a certain distance.
There are many more tricks you can use to take advantage of the interaction vision this. You just need to understand how it works vision as well as several heroes who have interactions vision different. After that you just practice and get used to using tricks or manipulations vision that can be done.
