Cloud9 Overwatch Name Poll is Open, Come Join!
Taking place in London, on 30 August 2021, London Overwatch League franchisee Cloud9 asked the community for help in naming their roster. The request for the Cloud9 Overwatch name poll is related to the announcement that organizations participating in the Overwatch League are being asked to create separate branding specifically to the new league, according to an ESPN report released last week. This move from Cloud9 is likely to confirm the report.
About the Cloud9 Overwatch Name Poll
While connected to whatever organization purchased the slot, the new brand must conform to Overwatch League specifications and operate as its own business entity. The naming format for the Overwatch League requires the location to precede the team name, similar to the NBA naming convention – for example, the Miami Heat or the Golden State Warriors.
“Be a part of history and please let us name the London Overwatch franchise,” the Cloud9 survey page reads. “The naming format is ‘London [TEAM NAME]’ and the team will be the standalone franchise we welcome in the Cloud9 family.”
The form on this survey page allows for up to three name suggestions from the community. Then, eSports organization Cloud9 will post the best names in a survey to narrow down the choices.
Fans have started suggesting names via Twitter. Many hope Cloud9 will be satisfied with the name given by the fans. London Clouds seemed to be the obvious choice, and was highly recommended by fans, but fans gave some other fun suggestions such as the London Niners, London Nimbus, London McLondon Face and London Calvary.
The North American esports organization acquired the London Overwatch League slot in early August. Shortly after, Cloud9 acquired the European Overwatch team Laser Kittenz, which would operate as Cloud9 in the Overwatch Contenders tournament. Several original members of Laser Kittenz have, since then, been reported to have been replaced by Cloud9’s management after their disappointing first week. Overwatch eSports club Cloud9 did not say when it would close the poll on naming it.
