PUBG Earns IDR 72 trillion in revenue

PUBG Mobile is reported to have generated more than US$5 billion in revenue or around Rp. 72 trillion since it was first launched in 2021.

This was revealed by an analytics company called Sensor Tower in a blog post. Based on its report, Sensor Tower claims that one of the most popular battle royal games has earned more than IDR 72 trillion from purchasing items or other things issued by its users.

Based on the data shared by the company, PUBG Mobile and its Chinese version, Game For Peace, generate an average of US$ 7.4 million per day or around Rp. 2.7 billion US dollars.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2021, Sensor Tower predicts that it will still be a profitable period for PUBG Mobile with an increasing revenue trend. So far they have grossed US$709 million, of which US$259 million was generated in January 2021.

Like many other games, PUBG Mobile experienced a significant increase in the last year due to the pandemic. According to the report, in the early days of the pandemic, namely in March 2021, the game managed to record a record revenue of around 300 million US dollars.

Meanwhile Game For Peace has generated 2.8 billion US dollars only for devices with the iOS operating system or in other words contributed 55.4 percent of the game’s total revenue of 5 billion US dollars as previously mentioned.

This news comes after previously PUBG Mobile announced that the game has been downloaded more than 1 billion times on both Android and iOS devices. Throughout history, only a handful of games have achieved this feat, such as Subway Surfer and Candy Crush. Although it only describes the number of downloads and not the number of active players, this is an extraordinary achievement for a mobile game that is still relatively new.

For the record, the figure of 1 billion downloads does not include the number of downloads in China, where PUBG Mobile is distributed through a local application store, and not with Google which is still banned in the country.

Some say that this success is partly influenced by the success of the original console PC game. Even so, Tencent arguably has done an excellent job of promoting the game and keeping it relevant to play on mobile.

Another note, this game’s affiliation with Tencent has made PUBG Mobile banned in India, one of the largest smartphone markets in the world. It is conceivable that if Tencent had no problems with the country, their income would have doubled.

It will be interesting to see what Krafton has prepared for its fans with the successor to this game, PUBG: New State, which was announced some time ago. (via)
