Game Review Firewatch – The Story of the Ranger

Firewatch Reviews – Lately, it’s very rare to find a game that has a good story-telling side, like a novel. But firewatch was far beyond my expectations, firewatch took me into a deep story with realistic dialogue and a very good game atmosphere. Moreover, the style of the firewatch graphics is very pleasing to the eye and memorable. Firewatch was very easy to get a nomination from us as one of the most memorable games of the decade

Without further ado, here’s a Firewatch Review.

Firewatch is a first person adventure game developed by Campo Santo, and released by Panic in February 2021. Firewatch was released on Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and also the Playstation 4 console. Firewatch is the debut game from Campo Santo. . This game tells the story of Henry, the man who becomes a forest watchdog because his wife has a brain disease and he can’t take care of her anymore.

The first time you start Firewatch, the atmosphere from firewatch immediately invades. The story of firewatch itself takes several days in in-game time which acts as a chapter or episode of firewatch itself. One chapter can take in-game time from morning to night, so the atmosphere and color of the graphic artwork from firewatch made by renowned illustrator Olly Moss is very beautiful to look at from a first person perspective.

The firewatch development team deserves appreciation from Olly Moss to level designers, even though the places in the game are fictional places, the various places in the game itself are very memorable and feel like real locations in the real world, such as in the middle of the gap from Thunder Canyon, Jonesy Calm lakes, as well as various valleys full of beautiful views. Unfortunately, even though the firewatch is set in the middle of the forest, there are very few roaming animals.

Firewatch also has a sound side that is as good as the graphics side, excellent scripting makes two of the main characters feel like real people. The characters we play also have freedom, we can choose to play Henry as a serious character or like to joke around. The only other people who interacted with the player were Delilah, Henry’s superior, as well as the other forest supervisors who were watching over the other half of the forest. Delilah is an unemotional character, even though she sometimes seems to have a slightly hurt personality, but Firewatch can package it without making Henry and Delilah’s conversation redundant.

From the start of the game, the interactions between the two characters are very close, even though they only communicate via radio throughout the game. Henry is someone who has a good heart even though it can be a little confusing at times. Henry is also someone who can’t make a choice, as seen in the beginning of the game where Henry is torn between becoming a forest overseer or returning to his sick wife. Firewatch is very strong in attracting its players to be immersed in the story in the game. We believe that if firewatch were a book firewatch would be very successful as a novel, and few games could have such a deep story.

The gameplay of firewatch is not deep, but like other games with a story background, the main gameplay is the story itself. Although the gameplay is not deep, firewatch has a plus point in its exploration feature because the game world is very wide. You can find equipment in the middle of the forest that you can use, various unique sights and places, and also you can find a turtle that you can take home and raise, very unique because no one accompanied Henry throughout the game because Delilah only communicated via radio .

The exploration side of firewatch is quite deep because there are no directions like most games, you have to find your own way which is assisted only by a compass and a map, you will feel lost and confused at first, but as you play this game, you will used to find their way to and from home. There are also various cliffs that you can descend with the rope provided in the equipment box at the beginning of the game.

For the epilogue itself, unfortunately firewatch is very weak at the ending. I will not reveal the story and will give players the opportunity to complete the firewatch themselves. In our opinion the ending is very semi-finished which can make you think whether you did something wrong or left a clue in the middle of the game.
