ASUS ROG HERO G531GU Review

Competition between gaming laptop brands is now getting tougher. On average they issue many SKUs to compete in all segments with price ranges that are also not much different.

This is also what ASUS is trying to present through the ROG Strix SCAR III G531GU series. The G531GU series that we tested use an Intel Core i7-9750H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti GPU. From here it can be seen that this gaming laptop is a cheaper version compared to the RTX version of the Turing GPU. Of course not only that, ASUS also provides many cool features on this laptop. What do you want to know? But first, let’s look at the brief specifications.

Design

This laptop has a cool design which is the result of ASUS’ collaboration with the designer of the leading car manufacturer BMW. This is what makes it look more fierce, especially in the airhole. ASUS places the hinge between the body and the screen slightly forward. So the airhole is not only on the back side, but also on the top side. Airhole is also on the right side. In addition, on the bottom side there is also an airhole that sucks in large air. Just be careful not to put the laptop on a dusty base, because the bottom is at risk of sucking up dust.

The cover and body use aluminum which is a bit rough. Again, this part is easy to leave hand spots that make it easy to get dirty. For the cover there is the ROG logo which will light up according to the RGB backlit theme on the keyboard. At the bottom there is also an LED that lights up according to the theme of the RGB.

Dimension

Even though it doesn’t use the Max-Q design, today’s gaming laptops already have dimensions that are not too thick. Likewise with this laptop. Its thickness is also only 2.6 cm which is still relatively thin. With a length of 36 cm and a width of 27.5 cm, these dimensions are slightly different from the average new gaming laptop we have tested. It is also light in weight, only 2.4 kg. So it’s still convenient to carry around in a bag.

Screen

This laptop has an IPS screen with a diagonal size of 15.6 inches. And because the left, right, and top bezels are made thin, they’re not very wide. For the panel, this time ASUS uses AU Optronics which has the B156HAN08.2 series. This panel has also been used by ROG Strix GL504 Scar II. The screen is anti-glare and has full HD resolution. The refresh rate is 144 Hertz, the response time is 3 milliseconds. The brightness level is 300 candela/m2, and the calibrated sRGB color gamut is 100%. For Delta E, it is still fairly standard at 4.4, but when calibrated there is a pretty good increase because it reaches 1.7. A little information, the smaller the value of Delta E, the sharper it looks.
