The Number of Active Players Dota 2 Drops For 5 Consecutive Months

The number of active players in Dota 2 has decreased for 5 consecutive months. The game developed by Valve and IceFrog, namely Dota 2, is one of the most popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games in the world.

Even the big annual Dota 2 tournament which had to be postponed this year, namely The International 10, managed to become an esports tournament with the highest prize pool in history, which is 40 million USD.

But this is not in line with the number of active Dota 2 players which is decreasing. Even in the past 5 months, peak players from Dota 2 have always been falling and showing no signs of increasing.

Number of Dota 2 Players

Even though the Battle Pass The International 10 was enjoyed quite a lot but apparently this did not make the number of peak Dota 2 players increase, instead it decreased.

This makes for the first time in Dota 2 history, the game lost players for five consecutive months (May 2021 to September 2021). Dota 2 had 3 successful months in February, March and April 2021 where the number of peak players touched the 800 thousand mark.

The increase in this number may be because many Dota 2 players are returning to play, because these months were the early days of the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) so many were self-quarantining.

The decline in player numbers started in May 2021 but was exacerbated after the TI10 Battle Pass was announced on May 21. In the month following the release of Battle Pass, the average number of players fell by a huge margin of 27 thousand players while in May it fell by only 8 thousand.
